Those are 11 or 12 gauge strings. String sets are named by the smallest gauge, the high E. 10 was pretty normal in my day. 11 is painful. And 12 needs to be detuned by a half step.

9 gauge I’d break about every 3 days. Even the G string.
This post is kinda’ strange…. I say that because a few hours before this, a friend came by and we plugged in and played mostly blues. We were discussing various guitarist and SRV came up and we specifically talked about this particular video and the Albert King/SRV session Toby posted the link to. The force was strong tonight!

As great as SRV is (and he IS great!) Hendriks did this song better.

Saw him in CT at Lake Compounce, he was the warm up band for Joe Cocker. Joe was great but SRV was the draw, incredible show. SRV passed soon after. Only the good. ✝️

I still think the best blues guitarist is a tie between SRV and Eric Clapton.
Good lick!
SRV used 13 gauge strings. His hands & fingers must’ve been insanely strong.

Not a guitar player but was told by one those heavy strings pulled up tight was most of the distinctive tone coming from Stevie’s guitar.

not too much better than that
SRV didn’t play the guitar. He was the guitar.
