Iconic Brand Jaguar Is Transitioning

Fox News

Jaguar could be facing its own Bud Light moment after online backlash to a new ad Tuesday.

The car brand released a new promotional video debuting its reimagined logo on its X account under the slogan “Copy Nothing.”

The ad featured androgynous models in brightly colored, over-the-top outfits, including one man wearing a dress, along with other slogans such as “create exuberant,” “live vivid,” “delete ordinary” and “break moulds.”

The ad did not feature a car throughout its entire 30-second run. More

  1. I think JAG is pretty much toast at this point. Their cars have been smoldering crap for many years. This is just the last dying gasp of a company trying to draw in the demographic that will buy a car based on how queer it is.

  2. “Iconic brand”. OK, boomer.

I test drove a XJ6 decades ago and NOTHING electric functioned; the power windows, sunroof, vent fan…NOTHING. After a decent 10 minute drive, I told the salesman I’m done, let me out of this POS.

I bought a low-mileage certified-used MB diesel sedan which was a memorably excellent car. Never had ANY reason to look a Jaguar again. That they publish an advert. that screams “look at us” doesn’t surprise me. That it says NOTHING about why I should consider their car tells me all anyone needs to know.

  3. I remember British engineering when I was younger from friends who had Triumph, Norton and even a couple BSA’s and Royal Enfield’s. Throw in a couple MG’s and I’ve had my share of British stuff. Not even interested.

The Brit responsible for Lucas electrics should have been tried and shot.

  4. I remember when Ford bought them back in 1989. I laughed then as Ford was going to restore a high quality image to the failing brand and make $$$. Time to bury this long, long, ago icon for good.

  5. I was once the very proud owner of a 1976 XJS. No other car in the world is as elegant. After swapping out all the Lucas electrics it was perfect, from its true wire knock-offs to it incredibly smooth “crouch” at highway speeds. And that engine! V-12 with that characteristic Jaguar purr. Made better with custom dual exhausts. It was a head-turning automobile.

You didn’t own a Jaguar back then for its gas mileage or its low maintenance costs.

I cried real tears when it left my garage for the last time. Real tears. No room for a child’s seat in the rear. Real tears.

  6. …it was no longer Jaguar when Ford purchased them and it’s shameful to use the jaguar emblem on a car since then. Today you can’t tell the difference between a Jaguar and a Kia. Shameful.

  7. Welp, this is one way to cure my hubby of his lifelong Jaguar obsession and get him to abandon the current restoration… He’s had a fair number of them over the years, most of them acquired as projects and quickly sold in that brief moment when he got everything working. (He refers to Lucas as the Prince of Darkness.)

We actually owned Crazy Eddie’s used Jag years ago. It was a 1980’s white XJS V12HE that was fairly reliable and completely impractical (as AA notes, above). I only drove it a few times; it made me feel like a drug dealer’s girlfriend or a gold digger. But at least it made me feel like a heterosexual woman.

  8. To quote Click and Clack, the Tappet brothers, when questioned by a listener if he should buy a Jaguar:
Tom: “That car will take you to Nirvana”
Ray: “You just won’t be able to get back.”

Car Talk was literally the only thing worth listening to on NPR

As I remember that was a common engine swap back in the day. I have no idea why. The 440 was a much better engine and basically the same block. Those little English frame member probably couldn’t deal with the HP.

  10. RickyG: According to Scotty Kilmer, the Chinese have owned it and Rover for a few years. As I recall, they bought Jaguar from a Spanish company. Ford probably hasn’t owner it for ten years. It has been a hot potato that nobody wants.

There is an aircraft museum in Houston. They had a display of a Rolls Royce Merlin engine. In World War II, Ford was given a sub-contract to make the engine. They looked at the specs and said they couldn’t built it to RR’s specs. The conversation went something like this:

“Why, is it more precise than you can handle?”

“No, they are too sloppy. They way we build things we need to be able to take any part and put it on any engine. We can’t afford to take the time to make a part fit on a particular engine.”

And that was Rolls Royce, eighty years ago.

When I left the UK in January 1976 as a low-ranking GI, I could have purchased a brand new XJS with American features through the Air Force BX. Seventy-four hundred bucks out the door and delivered to a dock in Jew Jersey. I wanted it so bad but, alas, I was married and there was no way it was going to happen. DANG!

  12. The left never learn. They just dig in their heels and hooves and DEI harder.
Every brand that submits to DEI deserves a quick demise. Jaguar’s brand is scheduled for a virtual car crusher.
