1 Corinthians 2 – IOTW Report

1 Corinthians 2

1 Corinthians 2

And so it was with me, brothers and sisters. When I came to you, I did not come with eloquence or human wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God.[a] For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. I came to you in weakness with great fear and trembling. My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God’s power.

God’s Wisdom Revealed by the Spirit

We do, however, speak a message of wisdom among the mature, but not the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. No, we declare God’s wisdom, a mystery that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began. None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. However, as it is written:

“What no eye has seen,
    what no ear has heard,
and what no human mind has conceived”[b]
the things God has prepared for those who love him—

10 these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit.

The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. 11 For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. 12 What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us. 13 This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words.[c] 14 The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit. 15 The person with the Spirit makes judgments about all things, but such a person is not subject to merely human judgments, 16 for,

“Who has known the mind of the Lord
    so as to instruct him?”[d]

But we have the mind of Christ.

  1. Back in the 80’s, I built a telescope from scratch when I was barely an adult. Literally grinding a plate glass against another until perfection was found. I was a broke college student, I wanted a telescope for no particular reason other than my own vanity… So I could stare into the darkness and see what He had penciled amongst the stars.

I am in awe of what I have seen with my own eyes. We are nothing before Him.

  2. Ironic that when Jesus was hanging there with the sins world on his shoulders, he had room for one more sinner. We’re all that thief, and his grace is sufficient for me. It’s a free gift.

  3. One of the most humbling things that I ever experienced was late at night after flight ops were over on board the Kitty Hawk and I would sit up by the bow on clear extremely dark nights and watch the Milky Way unfold in front of me in all of its glory. God showed me just how big that he is, and how he cares for me thru his grace and the rest of us as well. I’ll never forget that. God also showed me one night coming back to the Navy base at Subic Bay from a drunken night in Olongapo City in the Philippines. I was drunk as a skunk, and I don’t know how I got back to the ship until a friend of mine found me and guided me safely back to the ship. God showed me that night that I had a hole in my heart that could only be filled by his presence in my life and not getting drunk or chasing after Filipino hookers. That was another moment that God saved me again from my youthful stupidity and I’m eternally thankful for it. We serve a great God who loves us far more than we can ever imagine or think. Thank you, Lord that you saved me when I was in my early 20’s back in the mid 70’s about 1974/75 because without you, I don’t know where I would be or even if I would still be alive at nearly 72 in another month. Every good gift that I have ever experienced has come from God, thank you Lord
