Pillow Biting Senate Dems Declare “Blanket Hold” on State Department Nominations

The Hill

Sen. Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii), a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, announced Monday he will place a blanket hold on all of President Trump’s nominees to the State Department until the president backs off his effort to shut down USAID, the nation’s chief foreign assistance agency.

“Until and unless this brazenly authoritarian action is reversed and USAID is functional again, I will be placing a blanket hold on all of the Trump administration’s State Department nominees. This is self-inflicted chaos of epic proportions that will have dangerous consequences all around the world,” Schatz said in a statement.

Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) said he would join Schatz’s holds, while protesting at the USAID headquarters against Trump’s reorganization of the agency. Expand article logo

“We’re all in this together,” he said in response to a reporter’s question. More

  1. @HTC(SW) I think he means [their] banks accounts aren’t safe. Could be you are onto another angle.
When they say “we” I always assume they mean their “elite” group of con-men/women.
    Not “‘We’ the People”

  2. Sounds like Schatz is schatz-ing himself.
Good. Let the State Dept be without a Trump-appointed leader.
It will still continue to operate, probably under a deputy (whatever).
And that Deputy will most likely do what PDJT47 wants him/her to do, if said deputy want to continue drawing a paycheck.
“Nice job ya gots there. Be a shame if summit were to happen to it”.
In the meantime, Trump, Musk, et al, will continue to disassemble USAID and expose it for the money laundering scheme that it is.

  3. Trump can always name an interim leader for any position; in fact there are Trump-appointed leaders playing Tulsi’s and RFK’s roles right now as well as others, pending their confirmation.
Looks like it takes a cloture vote, 60 votes in the Senate, to overturn the hold. Republicans have done this in the past too. Wish we had 60 GOP votes, but whatever.

  4. Former Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) was the first to be confirmed, securing the secretary of State position
“Sen. Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii), a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, announced Monday he will place a blanket hold on all of President Trump’s nominees to the State Department”
Place your blanket, I am certain there are qualified nominees could be hired by Rubio to do the job without a Title or your approval.
