Mann Slammed to Five Grand

Just the News

A Washington, D.C. district Judge Tuesday reduced the punitive damages award granted to celebrity climate scientist Dr. Michael Mann in a defamation lawsuit against Rand Simberg, an analyst at the Competitive Enterprise Institute, and National Review blogger Mark Steyn. 1. Dr. Michael Mann: Hey, I get $5,000 for lying. If I tell a lie every day, I’ll get rich quick. After I make $10,000,000 I can retire and stop telling lies about the climate warming crap. I always knew there was an angle in the whole climate thing that I could exploit.

    Mann: Lets see: 10,000,000 / (5000×30) = 66.67 months, or 5.6 years. Yee Hah!

  2. This is a sad example of our flawed legal system. The plaintiff will see no repercussions for filing such a ridiculous claim and the defendant spends a fortune fighting it. If successful, the defendant is still out of a ton of money spent on lawyers.
In the end, the lawyers ALWAYS get richer.
The system should be adjusted so the defendant should get all legal costs paid by the plaintiff if the plaintiff loses. Then the “legal” industry would shrivel up and die.
