A 22-year-old fan who heckled Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte during a game against the Chicago White Sox at Rate Field on Tuesday night has been banned indefinitely from the South Side ballpark.
Marte was seen in tears on the field after the spectator yelled a derogatory comment about Marte’s late mother during a seventh-inning at-bat in Arizona’s 4-1 win over Chicago.
According to a White Sox spokesperson, the security staff at the ballpark relayed that the fan was “very apologetic and remorseful after the fact, and admitted to being very inappropriate and stupid with his comments.” More

Remember a time when people went to ball games wearing a suit and tie? This ‘fan’ and all ‘fans’ like him need to be banned.
Societal boundaries need to be protected. Or we get this crap. And shootings and ‘fan’ riots and the like.
Just because your team is crummy doesn’t mean you have to be too. Have a little class.
Ketel Marte has been swinging a very hot bat lately. Glad the fan was ejected, no place in sports for this shit.
I really don’t know what to think, I would imagine most of these sports people have some kind of agenda they adhere to. I gave up sports when ABC quit the “Wide World of Sports”. I particularly enjoyed the “agony of defeat” watching the ski jumper falling off the ski jump. It now seems like the agony of the spectator.
In any event, I don’t give a … . about sports
Gee, he’s an even bigger asshole than the average Red Sox or Yankees fan. And the only thing that piece of shit fan is “remorseful” about is losing his season ticket money. What a fucking loser piece of shit.
I once worked for a company that had a great CEO. She was very hands on and made the rounds to visit all the offices and made sure to meet the people. She knew everyone. Every now and then a complaint would escalate up the line and of course she was the last stop. Most of the time it would get resolved, but occasionally there were some people who were belligerent and disagreeable and could not be reasoned with. Her solution: “You’re fired. I am firing you as a customer because you obviously need to look for another company other than ours” and had their service cut off at the end of their service period. Rotten attitudes, bad language and nasty comments should never be tolerated or placated. Banning that “fan” is the same thing as firing him… for good reason.
He’s 22. You can run into a shit load of 25 and unders that have never had their asses beat and have received waaay to many participation trophies. They don’t get it. But they will.
Unfortunately, too many parents have swallowed all the flim-flam about parenting in the 90’s and beyond that their child must NEVER encounter ANYTHING that might erode their child’s self-esteem. If there was/is a more blatant case of child neglect, you’d have to go far and wide to find it. Kids know better than anyone else when they’re being manipulative, dishonest and mean, and THAT is what destroys someone’s self-esteem. That and the stadium’s $20.90 beers.
I think this nation is primed for a return of social civility.
musta been a pedocrat, those muther******* will say anything

Very true, but the schools play a big role in this too. You can’t raise boys like girls.
Interesting. I grew up a kid in middle America and was taught ANYONE can say ANYTHING because we have freedom of speech in this Country. Offensive? 100%. The idiot has a right to speech. Grow up and ignore the idiots!
MildredLucille — You’re right, of course. But test that civil right — boldly and truthfully — at your next family/friends gathering. Please let us know how it went. 🙂

That was a privately owned venue. They can limit your speech.
Our AAA stadium ( and probably all pro sports), have a standard of conduct for the fans who watch the game. This 22 yr old punk definitely broke that standard and was properly ejected.
Very sad this young man lost his mother in such a tragic manner. However, he can’t let the hurtful words from a stranger effect him that deeply.
People are cruel and a significant factor of maturity, especially for manhood is to know your self worth isn’t linked to those who don’t respect you.
Yes, he needs to “man up”….”sticks and stones…” etc. Some people are more emotional than others, but the current generations are just too much in their “feels”.
He’s fortunate to have support from his coach and team mates. Hopefully he appreciates it.
Some heckling is to be expected, I guess. Ragging on someone’s mother, deceased or not, is unnecessary. Worthy of a brutal ass beating, actually. Few bonds are tighter than the bond between mother and son. Especially when the son is the first born. I speak from experience.
MildredLucille, you’re really off base (no pun intended). Do people have the freedom speech to say anything in your home? I thought so. A baseball stadium is a private business and they can enforce standards against this kind of bullshit no less than you can enforce it in your own home.
