  2. Oh, gee, you could have some cruel fun with this.

“Hello, you’ve reached Uncle Al’s voice mail. We’re in the midst of massive rioting and looting and burning and the Amish hordes are about to overrun us. We desperately need help and …*BANG* … *CRASH* … *AAAAAAAGH*”

  3. It has some REAL benefits but 1 major drawback.

It could alert scammers that you are NOT HOME/At Your Business for at least a Few Hours.

I would do it though because some 911 call centers put ypu on HOLD? Don’t answer. I remember one 911 operator that would hang up on people.

  4. Get a satellite tracker that allows for texting. I use Spot. Has a panic button for normal emergencies and one for ‘call out the cavalry’ life -and -death emergencies, but any ordinary text that is sent will have your location printed on it. They also offer inexpensive rescue insurance.

  5. Speaking of Emergency Alerts and Notifications . . .
Whatever has happened to that Boelter investigation?
There must have been briefings by now?
Or has it been buried by other current events?
Perhaps a post war doldrum fodder coverage here?

  6. As a youngster, my most reliable source of long distance conversation was a taunt string with an empty can on each end.

Even today I don’t have a ‘smart’ phone and my string is not long enough to allow me to get lost.
