Colbert was never really leading character energy, much better a side man. He only took a leading role for the same reason Biden or Cackles did. There was no one else available. Mediocrity rewarded led to an inflated sense of worth and bland, safe humor gave way to belligerently mediocre efforts. Lady Gaga is another example of straight mediocrity elevated, the meat dress was her very own idea!

Colbert got big on the left for mocking O’Reilly on a near nightly basis. Like most people who lack actual talent, once he had to rely on his own personality his popularity waned.
In a way, I’ll miss mocking his prejudice and stupidity.

I watched one episode the year he started and had to hold my nose, thinking, this stupid idiot’s never gonna make it! As usual, I was wrong.

I watched a few episodes a few years back. I wasn’t entertained, which I assumed was the premise and reason for The Late Show, so I moved on.
If I want politics, and particularly left of center politics, there is access via television and the internet 24/7. The Tonight Show (now the Late Show) used to be about silly jokes, even sillier skits, and banter with a variety of usually interesting guests. Colbert had turned it into a political agenda.
I haven’t watched it for years. Whether or not it’s canceled, or Colbert is replaced, or The Late Show mutates into something else is of no consequence to me – it’s not been on my radar for years.
By the way, for CBS to praise Colbert and then announce The Late Show was being canceled is disingenuous. Sure, there are a lot more entertainment options available now, but Colbert’s schtick wasn’t resonating with enough people to justify the show and compete with other programming or streaming services.
CBS is not only going to “fire” Colbert, they’re also going to remove The Late Show from b’cast lineup.
And put what?, exactly, in it’s place?
Another 1/2 hour infomercial? More “news”? T’off the transmitter with a Star Spangled Banner good night? (those of you old enough know what I mean)
Whatever. At that time of night/morning, I’m in bed, sound asleep.
The show was a daily dose of whatever the left was pushing or against today.

Gee, the star-spangled banner and a test pattern send off for the night at midnight or a little later what a novel 1950-70’s concept. …I never watched his show, but I was reminded by the picture above of ONE way he was an innovator.

Loved that show when Letterman was the host. He did plenty of goofy skits that he carried over from his days at NBC- Stupid Pet Tricks, Dropping Things Off a Five Story Building,etc. Then he moved across town to The Ed Sullivan theater where he introduced his new neighbors . Particularly Rupert Gee who ran the Hello Deli and became a very popular guest. It was a fun show while it lasted.
Can’t stand Colbert who behaved as if it was a treat to schmooze with disgusting left democrats. He even tainted the 11 o’clock news for me since I liked the weather forecaster on the local CBS channel because they considered it important to promote Colbert’s show coming up soon after their News. As if it’s a treat to see yet another Democrat bashing Trump!!
