I have had a security clearance from the day I started active duty in 1995 until present working as a military contractor- with the exception of the period between Nov 2004 and May 2008 when I was neither.
if I lose or quit my job my clearance is cancelled immediately (though can be easily reinstated if I get another cleared job within 60 days).
I will never understand how people no longer working in government, with no need to know, and well past their interim period can keep their clearance simply because they think they are important somehow.

All Clearances of former employees should be revoked unless they are under government employment or serves in the interests of the United States.
Why does ANYBODY retain top secret security clearance after they leave office?!?! The first thing a company does when they fire you is take your access card/keys and turn off your eMail.
