President Donald Trump said Monday night that he’s firing Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook, an unprecedented move that would constitute a sharp escalation in his battle to exert greater control over what has long been considered an institution independent from day-to-day politics.

Trump said in a letter posted on his Truth Social platform that he is removing Cook effective immediately because of allegations that she committed mortgage fraud.

Cook said Monday night that she would not step down. “President Trump purported to fire me ‘for cause’ when no cause exists under the law, and he has no authority to do so,” she said in an emailed statement. “I will not resign.” More

  1. Cook:

President Trump purported to fire me ‘for cause’ when no cause exists under the law…

I read from a knowledgeable source that neither the applicable statute nor case law have anything to say about what is or is not “cause.”

    So Cook is lying again.

Franklin and Jefferson were opposed to these Federalist power grabs.

  3. Whether there’s “cause” or not, you serve at the will and pleasure of the President. If he tells ya, “it’s time for you to go”, then you’re gone.

Read the constitution you twit. The Chief Executive can relieve you of you duties for just not liking you. The Federal Reserve is independent in that the Executive Branch doesn’t manage it, but it and it’s personell are still part of the Executive Branch and subject to the Chief Executive.

  5. All together now, an obvious DEI hire by Dementia Joe. Good thing this Demwit is dumber than a box of rocks. Her well documented grift is “the cause” for her getting the boot from the Trump Administration. Bye, Felicia!
