After emerging as a symbol of resistance in Indonesia last month, the iconic Straw Hat pirate flag from popular anime One Piece has made it to the ongoing protests against government-imposed censorship in Nepal.
Thousands of Gen Z protestors rallying against censorship, corruption, and the leadership of Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli hoisted the Jolly Roger of the Straw Hat Pirates to emphasise their stance, according to media reports. More
And in Indonesia Here
One Piece started as a very popular “manga” series then was adapted for television and the movies to become a very popular “anime.”
WTF is anime? Do adults participate. I’m old. I shall google and report back.
“Anime refers to Japanese animation, encompassing both traditional hand-drawn and modern computer-generated styles, and has evolved into a distinct art form with a rich history and diverse genres since the early 20th century. While the term “anime” in English specifically means Japanese animation, the word in Japan itself is the shortened form of the English word “animation” and can describe any animated work. Today, anime is enjoyed globally and is available on streaming services like Netflix and Prime Video, with popular series including Attack on Titan, One Piece, and Demon Slayer.”
Really? They should kill themselves and get it over with.
Sorry, gotta say it. That is one really stupid looking fscked up flag design.
The only uniquely interesting style within anime is tentacle porn, and tentacle porn is perverse and disgusting.

Anime sux, it is soulless, lifeless jap animation. The eyes have no expression except for blank expressions, and its animation is stilted and wooden. In my mind anime is 3rd rate animation with no purpose except to titillate the stupid japs who watch this crap. Bring on Godzilla, they deserve to be destroyed and annnihilated for foisting this garbage upon the world.
Side note: is IS Talk Like a Pirate Day today.

“Demon Slayer” is excellent as is “Cowboy Bee Bop.” I recommend both anime. “One Punch” is also good. I’m not such a fan of “One Piece” or “Attack on Titan.”
I take the anime pirate flag as a less serious “V for Vendetta” Guy Fawkes mask that were all the rage among the anarchist crowd 20 years ago or so.
It conveys to me a message of, “We’re not serious revolutionaries, but we’d like you to leave now.”
To all you anime nay-sayers, have you ever watched any Studio Ghibli or CoMix Wave (Your Name, Weathering With You) videos? Tsk. Try it. You just might like it.
Oh boy, one of my favorites from The Twilight Zone ! And just in time for The Rod Serling Weekend up in Binghamton, NY !!

I don’t like anime – my nieces do but I’ll give the Japs a pass on this just because I love the way they play Baseball !
They did give us Ichiro Susuki one of the best hall of fame MLB right fielders ever for the Seattle Mariners. And there’s always everyone’s favorite giant Japanese monster Godzilla.
Treasure Island was required reading at school and there’s nothing like reading the classics then seeing them in the old movies. Loved the Wallace Beery and Jackie Cooper version.
Oh yeah, Ichiro was the best and Godzilla, too with all those cheesy special effects!!
Funny but one of my favorite oldies was a Japanese song which was titled “Sukiyaki” here in the US. Think the story had to do with Japan being occupied by the USA after WWII and nothing to do with the dish “Sukiyaki”.
Coincidence that you happened to post this right before International Talk Like a Pirate Day?
I have a copy of Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson with full color illustrations by NC Wyeth which I will share and read with my 4-year-old grandson when he gets a little older.
