Mint on MSN
A $1 coin bearing the image of President Donald Trump may be released by the US Treasury to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the independence of the country, Axios reported. However, there is a potential legal hurdle that can scupper this plan.
As per a federal law, no living US President’s image can be placed on a currency coin.
“No coin issued under this subsection may bear the image of a living former or current President,” the law in focus says. It also precludes images of deceased US Presidents within two years of their death. More
That’s not a potential legal hurdle. It’s an actual legal hurdle.
I like the idea of a President Trump coin, but I agree with the practice, whether or not it’s supported by legislation, of not putting the image of anyone living on a stamp, coin, or bill.
I still have a shitload of the Kennedy half Dollars and I can’t get rid of them anywhere. I would rather have the Trump dollars so count me in…..
I’m more in favor of the medical peeps declaring TDS an actual physiological disease. That’s been mentioned.
@Anon2117 — Check the dates on those Kennedy halves. The 1964 ones are 90% silver, and worth a fair amount (spot price of silver is roughly $48/oz and one of those coins contains over ⅓ oz.). 1965-70 halves are 40% silver. 1971+ are the same ugly cupronickel crap as post 1964 dimes and quarters.
Makes “cents” to me!
I don’t like the idea of “our” side doing what the left always does … break the law because they want to.
Nope, completely illegal.
Only if they come out with a Orange colored one would I buy it.
Then, of course, it should be Reagan.
I still have a small stash of 1964 Kennedy half dollars from when I was a paperboy in the mid sixties. They could be good for bartering when the SHTF.
Go to a private mint and issue a 90% silver coin with Trump’s face and $1.25 worth of silver. Send one to every registered Democrat with a message explaining that the coin is tiny because the Democratic Party has destroyed the value of U.S. fiat money.
Bad_Brad,
If they recognized TDS as a disease, American Benefit, Med Plans, & Therapist would BILL the people into complete Bankruptcy.
Think the sick days the D*G F#CK@R$ would take…
Cheers. (Typing invoices at 1am)
Just issue a Nordic gold coin of The Ear. It’s risen from the dead. And it’s Gold(ish).
Issue a Charlie Kirk coin.
Let them choke on it!
LBS,
POSTAGE STAMP for sure.
Issue a Gover Cleveland, Donald J. Trump Coin.
Make it Gold.
Call it the 22-24-45-47 coin.
Bipartisan.
Grover was a Democrat way back when there were only two genders.
Oh, and as for “norms” and laws…
Are we still playing DEFENSE?
NO, we are now the DEPARTMENT of WAR!
They brought this shit on!
How about a commemorative medal? They’re not intended as ‘legal tender’ but look just like coins. Whether out of silver or gold, you know it would be in YUGE demand!
MAMA! (Make American Medals Again!)
(Okay, I’ll show myself out.)
As long as it doesn’t cost more than $1 to mint, who cares?
Before we start making new coins, I’d like an explanation of why there was a “coin shortage ” during the Coof times. Was it just an attempt to drive every interaction to a digital one? Too many unanswered questions from that catastrophe.
I doubt anything struck with President’s Trumps image would ever circulate. They would immediately become collector pieces and be worth more than the face value.
Call it a limited edition commemorative coin and make sure it’s gold and it’ll make plenty in foreign and domestic sales above the cost of issuance.
