News organizations including The New York Times, The Associated Press and the conservative Newsmax television network said Monday they will not sign a Defense Department document about its new press rules, making it likely the Trump administration will evict their reporters from the Pentagon.
Those outlets say the policy threatens to punish them for routine news gathering protected by the First Amendment. The Washington Post, The Atlantic and Reuters on Monday also publicly joined the group that says it will not be signing. AP confirmed Monday afternoon that it would not sign. More
Unnamed sources hardest hit.
I’m no lawyer, but the first amendment doesn’t guarantee access to restricted areas. The news organizations will just have to find sources and information without walking the halls of the pentagon and the White House.
And the Fake News bastids can’t do that.
This isn’t about the First Amendment. It’s about Trump kicking their phony asses, as well he should. Their feelings are hurt.
@joe6pak:
Absolute agreement. To take it further, the 1st, seems to me, protects the printing (or posting or broadcasting etc.) of the news but not the collecting of the news. As an absurdly extreme example, a ‘journalist’ could guarantee himself a scoop, an exclusive, by getting the info from somebody and immediately murdering him so he couldn’t tell anybody else. That’s hardly protected behavior!
I’m not a journalist, but even I know that the defense department was renamed the war department over a month ago. News organizations have one job… Accuracy.
This is why:

Faux News appointed BOY has one.
Everyone else gave him the middle finger salute. Now if the Military follows this trend….
I had a top Secret R clearance and it didn’t give me free access to things I didn’t have a need to know about. No cameras, and we had to page count manuals when we entered and left areas and sign off that all the pages where there. There was a long list of STRICT rules for reasons you didn’t get to question.

“News” organizations? By whose definition?
