Today San Francisco has what is perhaps the most deserted major downtown in America. On any given week, office buildings are at about 40 percent of their pre-pandemic occupancy, while the vacancy rate has jumped to 24 percent from 5 percent since 2019. Occupancy of the city’s offices is roughly 7 percentage points below that of those in the average major American city, according to Kastle, the building security firm. More
It’s a terrible shame.
I had cause to drive through downtown Seattle yesterday — the only reason I do is because the nearest Costco is just south of the downtown core. You wouldn’t know it was Christmas in Seattle AT ALL. It’s depressing, especially when I think back less than 15 years ago and remember all the fun things we would go downtown for at Christmastime: Santa breakfasts at Macy’s, the windows, the huge Westlake Center tree lighting, carolers, the winter carousel, hot chocolate and other food vendors on the streets. It was all so festive and vibrant. All gone now. Replaced by addicts, “the homeless” (aka vagrants), and their attendant crimes.
And to think Nordstrom — about the only big store left downtown — supports all this woke stuff! Idiots.
Democrats & the plague are different in name only.
AA: I’m sure Benaroya Hall has nothing but sold out shows.
Fifteen or sixteen years ago when I drove a bus in Seattle I was sitting at my layover at 2nd and Pine I think it was (the trolley bus that went to the U district and Ballard). There was a guy with enhanced pigment running around a well dressed guy. The well dressed guy was shouting “No, I don’t want anything, I just said ‘hi’ to be friendly.” I guess he learned his lesson.
A land of human waste.
RadiioMattM — Check out the ticket prices for Nutcracker ballet. Oh, and you can also pay an arm and leg for the Seattle (Queer) Men’s Choir.
AA – Wow, just checked those prices in Seattle, unbelievable. Houston is Nutcraker central (huge market and other events) and the prices here are half that price! We wanted to take our eldest grandaughter this year but left it a bit too late to get tickets. Next year for sure! Merry Christmas to you and yours.
Chinese need offices for when they completely take over, ya know?
AA: the old “let them eat cake” routine.
I wouldn’t set foot there.
