A freight train derails, causing road closures near New Mexico-Arizona border

JTN: Afreight train derailing and catching fire resulted in road closures of an interstate on Friday, the Arizona Department of Transportation announced.

“I-40 EB is closed at milepost 357 due to a train derailment in New Mexico,” the Arizona DOT wrote on social media platform,  X. “Expect delays & seek an alternate route. There is no estimated time to reopen the highway.”

The New Mexico State Police announced on Facebook that the train was carrying propane and gasoline at the time of the derailment. 

No injuries have been reported at this time.  more

  1. Any rational manager of rail systems would prioritize safety and reliability. But govt managers are anything but rational, and so instead they’ll give $billions in grants to a “private” (*snicker*) company to whisk punters back and forth between Hollywood and the Vegas Strip at 180 MPH.

  2. When I drove from The Great White North to Texas, I sat parked on I40 for over two hours because an Amazon truck crashed and burned killing both people in the cab. What is it with I40? But I10 goes dangerously close to a certain unwalled boundary.
