A Little Help – IOTW Report

A Little Help

A longtime reader (who may choose to identify themselves) would like to reach out to the iOTW family for a little help.

Let’s see if we can do this!!

(Put a little iOTW mark on the envelope so we can track our impact. *Jethro’s idea.)

  1. Let’s play a game: Mark your envelope with a unique IOTWREPORT identifier and whoever is collecting them can get back to us with the tally of our results.
Maybe BFH can give us an idea…

  2. I would appreciate anyone who might be able to help out with this. Send a card, pass the link along. This is my oldest daughter and this is her first year teaching. The kids are not only getting a kick out of this, they are actually learning. It’s not to late. They are planning on collecting the cards until the end of February. If you are feeling really giving and have extra cards, there are 22 students in the class.

I really appreciate Big Fur for posting this, and anyone who can help out. Proud of my daughter and I think this was a really good idea for her to do. I will tell her to check envelopes for the IOTW mark!

  3. @ ShakeNbake and Brown Eyed Girl, Decades ago I lived in Lorain on the lake. Moved out and live in a neighboring county. We still go back for Gibson’s Donuts in Oberlin and the new huge Fligner’s market in Lorain. That place used to a small hole in the wall. I am happy to help out and send a card.

  4. @Eugenia and Brown Eyed Girl. I was born and raised in Lorain. Grew up across the street from the lake. Spent virtually every summer fishing or swimming in the lake (we had good neighbors that let us respectfully run a muck over there). I still live in Lorain county, but moved out of the city 23ish years ago. Fligners is still the biggest and best meat market around here. Polanski’s meat market is still in business after all these years over on Dewey road in Amherst.

  5. @Eugenia and ShakeNbake: Stop! You’re making me homesick! I have a trip planned to go home in February to see my family, who are all still in Lorain. For what it’s worth, my uncle Herb owned the 333 on Broadway.

  6. @ Brown Eyed Girl, worked in an office on Broadway. Payday we walked to Maria’s Roman Room for lunch.
I forgot about Polanski’s. Fligner’s is worth the trip from Medina County. We tale a cooler and load up on meat. There used to be a Danny Boys Market, I think it was, off Rte. 58. I really enjoyed going there for the produce and the German chocolates.

There was a little hole-in-the-wall pizza place on E.28, the end near Broadway that had the best ever Stromboli’s. There was an old fashioned bakery (with a screen door) just off E.28 that was next to my second job at Souhtside Veterinary Clinic. I doubt either is there now. I wonder if the Greenwood Inn still stands.

Now I’m getting hungry. When it warms up i need to take a trip down memory lane.

  7. @ ShakeNbake, Thanks for that link, hope you can share a pic of the completed map when the project is done. The card I sent will fill in one more state to the map on that link and I did add the IOTW trademark to the card.

  8. Thank you everyone. I will definitely send a picture of the map after they wrap it up at the end of the month. I truly appreciate everyone taking the time and going out of their way to do this. It means a lot to me. I may not comment very often, but when Fur say long time reader, he means it. A very long time. Thanks IOTW’ers.
