A Man and His Dog

Man’s About To Return Shelter Dog When He Finds A Letter From The Previous Owner

I saw this video and almost didn’t watch it. I hate sad critter stories, but something made me watch.

As the story neared completion, tears were rolling down my face. The very last sentence made me chuckle and I cried more.

It’s worth the watch.

PS, I hate when people do this on their videos; it uses a computer voice. It’s not as irritating as most, but I thought I should warn you.

Still worth the watch.

  1. I’m sorry to throw cold water on this, but if Reggie/Tamk is 6 years old (“almost as long as I have been in the Army”), and the writer of the letter has no family or loved ones, who was taking care of the dog all the time he was in basic and all the other Army training, and why didn’t he leave the dog with them? I think the story is made up.

  2. The lab at the start 0:15 is nearly identical to mine. I’ve always wanted one and to my surprise, they’re unbelievably smart. That’s all they want to do is be with you and you have to be very careful of that bond. They’re very sensitive, you cannot yell at a lab, hitting them is even worse. Mine is only 16 months old, we have a long way to go and she’s great!

So much, I might even consider a tattoo to memorialize her.

  3. Haha! Brad, I crack up whenever I see the lab taking a dump picture here for a story on San Feces or something. Just today my daughter was telling me about the lab doing her thing, so I tried to find the image. I found the one above instead and told her it was going to be my first tattoo. She laughed and strangely enough, this story popped up.

I do love my dogs. I’ve never wanted a tattoo and probably will never get one. However, I did get to thinking today while driving back from the orthodontist. Maybe some simple sillhouette of them doing stupid stuff would be neat. Unfortunately, as we all know too well. We as humans will outlive many canines, maybe some small and simple tattoos of them wouldn’t be all bad.

  4. They say a tattoo is a permanent reminder of a passing feeling Oaks.
When the pet croaks send him to the puppy toaster and keep the ashes over the fireplace… it’s worked for me and I don’t have to take my clothes off to remember him. The only problem you might run into are the wild parties with the Holden Arms girls where somebody thinks its blow.

  5. No offense taken, Dr. Tar. I wasn’t moved about the story of the man, but the behavior of the dog. I could just see so many of the labs (and one German Shepherd we had growing up) I have known in his sadness.

When he heard his name, it reminded me of when my dad gave our German Shepherd to a guy that lived on a farm. He thought she would like the space to run and play with the other dogs. Two days later, she showed up on our door step with bloody paws from walking the 20 miles back home. We all cried and loved her till the day she died … at home.
