A mandate means you can . . . and you’d better

Herman Cain

Trump will lead. Republicans must follow.

It seems like every time we elect a new president, there is debate about whether the winner was given a “mandate” by the voters. Supposedly this means they didn’t just elect him (or her), but did so in such a way as to confirm that they want him to aggressively pursue the implementation of his policies.

What constitutes a mandate? No one really seems sure. One possibility, though, is that you’ve got a mandate if the voters also gave your party a majority in the House and Senate – and in Donald Trump’s case, they did.

So let’s say Trump, along with congressional Republicans, have a mandate. Great. But there are two sides to a mandate. The one side says you can pursue your agenda. The other side says you’d better.

And they’d better. Because the Republican Party now owns the task of solving America’s problems. There is no more throwing up hands and saying, “We’d love to but Obama will veto anything we pass.”

And there is no doing what Obama spent eight years doing, which is blaming your predecessor for everything you can’t seem to get right. Regardless of what happened before you took office, you ran because you said you could make things better. If you don’t, that’s on you.

  1. I’m already annoyed he’s not in office, still trying to figure out his cabinet and the #NT is looking for every little thing to cry how Trump is backtracking on everything he promised the voters.

Example: last night he is pressed by that hag on 60 Minutes about if he will prosecute the Clintons and he said it’s something he would have to think about, doesn’t want to hurt them, good people, yada yada. So the #NT is accusing him of going soft and full back track on his promise to prosecute.

Hey dipshits, why would he openly pledge (post-election) he’s going after her and going to put her in jail, knowing full well Obama will probably go full pardon for her and Bill upon seeing this interview. Trump made the smart move by trying to soften the edges and not put the urgency out there for Obama to issue that blanket pardon.

Trump trolled the media and the Dems plenty of times during the election. He knows they have not learned their lesson or how to play the game like he does. He can lure them to sleep for the time being and then let the dogs loose once he is sworn in.

Just like when he was pressed last night on how he was going to defeat ISIS. He said I’m not going to tell you. Why telegraph your game plan so the enemy can prepare the appropriate defense? You don’t unless your an elitest, smug Democrat regressive.

  2. The assholes were wrong the day Trump entered the race. The assholes have been wrong everyday since Trump entered the race. And the assholes will be wrong from now until hell freezes over. So why listen to anything the assholes have to say?

  3. I hope you are correct, RightWinger.
He better keep his guard up 24/7.
I know he is trying to speak diplomatically, but some questions he needs to punt on.
The press are not partners, brothers, or friends.

    Statement from MSM regarding Trump:

    “Friends, Americans, & countrymen, lend me your ears;
We come to bury Trump, not to praise him;”

  4. My @NT friend is tell me how we should moderate our use of power. He lectures me that if we thought it was wrong the at Democrats used that kind of power it would be wrong for us. I had to correct him by pointing out I never said it was wrong for the Democrats to use the power the people gave them- I just disagreed with where they wanted to go.

We are not going to power share like W. tied. No. We are going to grind those bastards into the ground. We are going to tear out their beating hearts (repeal Dodd/Frank) and shove it down their throats so they can choke on it (repeal The Iran Deal). We are going to tear their eyes out and piss on their brain (repeal Obamacare). Anything after that will be icing on the cake.

  5. @Vietvet – the first line on his positions page is still repeal (and replace with HSAs). He said he would consider aspects of 0-care in deference to our lame duck. I certainly think repeal is an absolute, whether any aspects of 0-care have merit or not. I think Trump sees it that way too. But will Congress? And will the Senate overcome the fact there are only 52(?) GOP senators and 60 needed for cloture?

  6. Call as many Congresspersons from the Tea Party caucus as you can and ask that they don’t vote for Paul Ryan as Speaker. Has to be an important step in moving the mandate forward, getting rid of Rino Ryan….

  7. I was in a pretty good mood when Hillary got stomped on. I figured what the heck lets see what Trump does even though I thought he is not going to keep his promises he talked about during the campaign. And not even a week in the man is sounding like a panzy ass Rhino. It’s just going to be another crappy four years with another crappy president not doing anything or trying to really do what got him the votes. Still thankful it ain’t Hillary but this just going to be another disappointment of a president. And we had so much better of a candidate.

  8. “… he may keep the good parts of Obamacare.”

    There are NONE.
    PERIOD.
Statist Totalitarianism is Statist Totalitarianism, regardless the lie that initiated it.
If Mr. Trump is backpedalling, before he even gets into the Office, we (the Americans) are fucked.

    Say it ain’t so!

    izlamo delenda est …

  9. @Tim: Here’s what Trump has said (from WSJ):

“Mr. Trump said he favors keeping the prohibition against insurers denying coverage because of patients’ existing conditions, and a provision that allows parents to provide years of additional coverage for children on their insurance policies.”

    http://www.wsj.com/articles/donald-trump-willing-to-keep-parts-of-health-law-1478895339

Those ARE good parts, and I really don’t see any problem with keeping them.
