Hits the plant at full stride and you can just see the stored energy in the pole unwinding. Perfect timing.

At 17 the highest I jumped was…..drum roll please…..12 feet. Was proud. Varsity was only 10 feet.
This swede guy is 22 now and still setting records. I saw Serge Bubka set the record indoors in 84. I know how this is supposed to work for the most part.
Have to say, that’s the most technically perfect vault I’ve ever seen. Everything flows into the next position. Like Serge this guy does this extra arm push at the top so it looks like he’s doin’ a one armed vertical pushup.
Um….never got that far…. But for educational purposes this is the textbook example of how to do it.
Also, nowadays, skirts pole vault. And they’re actually pretty good at it.

Wild Bill – “…you can just see the stored energy in the pole unwinding. Perfect timing…”
Not only that, but if his momentum didn’t carry him forward enough when the pole’s stored energy began unwinding, he would have been flung straight up rather than forward. That was some serious laws of Physics in action.

Amazing.
How high was the vault?
4
that one was 20 feet 2 inches or 6.16 meters. He’s 22 now
Wasn’t the indoor record around 20ft in the 80’s? there used o be a lot of interest in pole vault, maybe it is me I can’t get interested in Olympics anymore the tv coverage sucks
4
Impressive, but I’d prefer to watch Allison Stokke.

Wow!
I can set a 34 PICT 3 carburettor. I know, only 3 screws… but…

” I know, only 3 screws”
There you go with the Chickens again.
1
Unless you are Joseph Jorkens why in the blistering fuck would you want to know how to pole vault? I mean, maybe Carl Panzram could have used a pole vault to get out of Dannemora, but he would have just burst into pieces on the other side…
I CAN SET the 3 screws on a 34 PICT 3 PROPERLY. Now, maybe only 50 people on earth have such carburettors…
1
Erik
Bro, I was born weighing more than that guy. So no.
2
I could do that.
I just don’t want to.
Sometimes you need to let other people shine.

“Now, maybe only 50 people on earth have such carburettors…”
Just sayen, that’s a pretty small market. No profit. Stop by and I’ll show you how to set up killer double pumpers. A lost art.
2
As a teenager, I could pole vault any time a cute girl walked by.
Usually not on purpose.

Isn’t pole vaulting what you call it when you deposit money in the Bank of Warsaw?

Yea what ever, I know you’re wife’s email. LOL.

I’ll stick with completely obscure shit, like, how does a telephone work? And, how do you remove the alternator from a 1975 Beetle?
I never pole vaulted. But I can clean the silt and lime from a water heater.

The coolest part about pole vaulting was that we had no coach. Taught ourselves and some of us went to pole vaulting camp over the summer. Meh.
All we really wanted to do was drag the pits over by the stadium lights and climb up as high as we dared before flopping down into the big cushy mats.
The actual sport is worse than golf as far as self inflicted mental anguish and the unforgiving nature of making the slightest of physical errors.
But like golf, when it all comes together, its fantastic. Just this brief moment of defying gravity and soaring freedom.
Plus, you run down the runway and jam your pole into the box. Hard to resist that temptation.

GONG! GONG! GONG!
Silver was under 20 dollars, to-day. Nobody said shit about that.
Some of those cocksuckers were still at 5 dollars an ounce for premium. Talk about cunts.

It’s at 17 something. I bought 3 coins today. Because bullion bores me. I like old timey coins. (side note. bought a 1922 peace dollar today. HATE IT. It actually says PEACE on the obverse. Gah. Mesikin onzas continue to be overpriced.
But gold is still above 1700 an ounce.

Aaron Burr
JULY 7, 2022 AT 12:00 AM
…suggested reading for Burr…it has pole vaulting, innuendo, skirts, AND German…
“‘A pole-vaulter?’ she said, in her cautious German. ‘Sie springen mit einem Pol?’
‘I used to, yes,’ I told her. ‘But not now, of course.’
Of course? you could see her thinking. But all she said was, ‘Wait. You used to be a pole-vaulter, but not any more, right?’
‘Of course,’ I said, to which she shook her head and went right on.
‘… and you’re here in the mountains because you used to be a pole-vaulter?’
She was admirable; I did love her perseverance. In such casual circumstances, most people would have given up trying to understand.
‘Why?’ she said insistently. ‘I mean, what does having been a pole-vaulter have to do with coming here to the mountains?’
‘I don’t know,’ I said innocently, as if she had proposed such a notion all by herself. She looked utterly confused. ‘What possible relationship could there be between mountains and pole-vaulting?’ I asked her then. She was lost; she must have thought it was a problem with her German.
‘You like heights?’ she tried.
‘Oh yes, the higher the better.’ And I smiled.
She must have sensed the nonsense in this talk, because she smiled too and said, ‘You bring your poles with you?’
‘My pole-vaulting poles?’
‘Of course.’
‘Of course I bring them with me.’
‘To the mountains …’
‘Of course.’
‘You just sort of lug them around, huh?’ She was having fun now.
‘Just one at a time.’
‘Oh, of course.’
‘It beats waiting in lift lines,’ I said.
‘You just vault right up?’
‘It’s harder coming down”
-John Irving, “The Water-Method Man”
I’ll have to check that out….. break time is over for now. I’m dethatching my lawn. It’s nice and cool out and I have a moon sliver up there somewhere. plenty of light.

Enrico….tranquillo, esse. Compas.
It’s just plata. It ain’t goin’ anywhere. It’ll go back up. It always do. Is why I like the numismatics side of it. No idea why, but some coins are worth more than others. Seems arbitrary a lot of the times.
Go spend 20 to 50 bucks on an onza or something with a 999 silver content. It goes up in value and it’s fun to play with. Just don’t clean it. In America, if you clean your coins they somehow lose all historical value and are reduced to silver content only as value.
Whatevr.
Also. APMEX is a precious metals site. They always have the current up to the minute prices on top of the page.

@joe6pak — Thanks for that link to a great family story. And note that the article is over seven years old and the young man was already a star.
He has been the world record-holder for a few years now. In March 2022 he cleared4 cm (about 1 1/2 inches) higher than this.
Interesting records over the years.
