A Water Stream That Seems Impossible

See the picture? Well, this is what the stream looks like when you’re looking at it in real time.

See what I mean HERE.

People are asking for an explanation, asking how this is possible.screen-shot-2016-10-02-at-11-09-52-pm

  1. Doing this with a faucet as a child, I was fascinated by it.

Looks solid but is flowing. Became a defining aspect of “perfection”, for me. When something is so perfect – you have to mess it up to see what it really is, confirming it’s real and you’re not dreaming.

  2. Why is the diversion to the splashing water on the bricks so fleeting?
Is laminar flow possible through an orifice? What would the Reynold’s number be?

Although this is more interesting than HRC’s lies and prevarications, I have no answer – if only JohnS were still around …

    izlamo delenda est …

  3. Not a trick of light or camera, guys.

I accidentally found this phenomena as a child.

Turning the water on juuust right so the flow was a ripple-less column coming out of the faucet.

It looked like a motionless clear glass rod, but a finger put in it proved it’s moving water. Along with the gurgle in the drain of the water in the pipe.

It was freaky enough to re-visit it from time to time when I was bored at 8 years old.

The stream was thinner than a pencil, but not by a lot.

You can do it too. You’re just not giving it a go.
