How out of touch can a person be?
I guess the only people more out of touch are the people who never heard of the artist. Thanks to Obongo, I’ve at least heard of the guy.
It’s Drake.
This “singer” has 94 Top 40 hits. NINETY-FOUR! And I never heard of any of them.
I put singer in quotes because I listened to his biggest hits and I noticed that they are auto-tuning him even though he’s essentially “singing” a 3 note range. This is the artistry of rap.
Here’s a guy who broke the record by The Beatles for simultaneous slots in the top 10. The Beatles once held the top 5 positions at once.
This Drake dude had 7 singles in the Top10 at once… AND I DON’T KNOW ANY OF THEM!
This is like the Twilight Zone.
Want another name?
Future.
Yep, Future. This is apparently a big star. He, she, it, they (I have no idea) once spent 166 consecutive weeks on the Top 100 charts.
Who holds the record?
That’s right… Drake. 431 Weeks. I said, 431 weeks.
And here’s another Twilight Zone moment for me. Buried in a list of people I’ve heard of, like Rhianna, Katy Perry and DRAKE, is a band called the Chainsmokers. They are second all-time for most consecutive weeks in the top 10 (61) with 4 separate songs.
Who the hell are they?
What’s going on?
LOL What’s going on is we’re gettin’ old!
As time progresses, I find that most music is getting more simplistic and cruder with less variety or originality then trying to make up for it by being louder.
Which is why I don’t know of these people, I don’t listen to music any more.
We are old Fur,and have better taste in music.
“Dark Side of the Moon” produced two singles: “Money” and “Us and Them”. The album topped the Billboard chart for one week, and remained on the chart for 741 weeks from 1973 to 1988.
The crumbling of Western Civilization is whats happening
I never heard his music either. If he’s a rapper then it’s not music as far as I’m concerned.
Like Seinfeld says – hate the Drake. Unlistenable noises to satiate the moron masses. Like Jay Leno once said about the Peoples Choice awards…”I don’t know who these people are, but we need to take their freedom of choice away.”

Grampa Fur?
Chainsmokers “Lemme take a selfie” was pretty funny a few of years ago. Kind of an update on Zappa’s “valley girl”.
Hip Hop is it’s own little culture. Never heard of the guy. All new music seems to suck.
I think 12 year old girls control the bill board ratings these days.
I’ve never even heard of Drake, and by the way, you damn kids get out of my yard.
Who?
Shields up, Mr. Spock !
There is a video online telling how most of the songs today are written by one of two people. Perhaps the charts today are calculated the same way likes on Twitter are, where a Tweet by AOC shot up by well over 10,000 likes in 15 seconds. Since a big chunk of the charts are based on downloads, how hard would it be to use bots to download those songs? The companies could have funds for doing that as they are going to get most of it back anyway.
Personally, if it was recorded after 1997 I probably don’t know it.
You are not alone, Furr. I gave up a long time ago. I draw a blank on pretty much all the current recording and movie/TV “stars”. Now my satellite radio is tuned to talk or the Country stations. I used to hate Country back in my Rock N Roll days and now I love it.
One names. Why not go back to some sort of symbol and cash in on the ‘smart’ generation tech? A big pile of…
Shorter:
get off my lawn
my modem is just fine
LOUDER
quick! it’s 3pm! time for the dinner special!
Drake – isn’t that a duck?
izlamo delenda est …
Used to be the “Top 40” were the most often bought songs. Because listeners liked them.
Today, the free obamaphone gimmes are forcefed this pablum without them needing to do a thing but swipe. Or not even that.
My kids were pissed when a U2 song was forced onto their iPhone and couldn’t be removed.
Fake music, fake artists, fake popularity. Sure JayZ and Benancy are awesome artists. Another lie so these kids can’t deal with reality.
This is the musical equivalent of the fart movie in IDIOCRACY.
At least I know “How You Gonna Keep ‘Em Down On The Farm After They’ve Seen Paris.” I believe it was in the top 10 for a few days in the 1890’s.
What I hate more than music from these alleged singers is their “moves.” Specifically when they mention “love” or “heart” or “caring” and then make that retarded heart symbol with fingers curled together and thumbs pointing down in some sort of visualization attempt. I don’t know what it is about that specific gesture that makes me want to jump thru the screen and rip their juglars out. On top of it all they’ve infected the younger generation and everyone under 25 is making heart symbols with their hands in some sort of relation to these morons. Then you’ve got idiots in main stream media “journalists” doing the same fucking thing. Just STOP THE MADNESS, all of them look retarded. Not one person can perform the heart gesture and look normal. Don’t get me started when a retard makes the heart and duck lips at the same time.
Music has changed….
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHg5SJYRHA0
3 notes and 3 words:
f* Bitch niggas ?
not that there’s anything wrong with that…
I’m gonna break out my Casey Kasem reel to reels and prove what’s really top 40….
I refuse to listen to Rap or Hip-Hop so I can’t be accused of cultural appropriation. I do have a lifetime pass to enjoy R&B at will. BTW, I thought Drake made snack cakes
Basically, it’s CRAP.
I remember my grampa saying all these exact same things when I was a whippersnapper in the 50s’
If you people would just calm down I would post some links to the kind of awesome music played by dead people that you all so enjoy.
Drake? Derka-derka
I rarely listen to music at home any more. When I’m driving and I want music, I’ve got a handful of CDs in the changer, and all are Greek or Russian Orthodox sacred music, mostly a capella male chorus. Very calming; I simply do not ever feel road rage (when I screw with deserving asshole drivers, it is serenely…and for their own good).
Could you beg me any harder, Al?
I pretty much only listen to Baroque. Any other Baroque fans here? So I wouldn’t have a clue anyway.
I down loaded most all of my favorite music, (and paid for it), years ago. They’re on CDs and it’s all I listen to anymore.
@ecp:
Think of it as a “twat” symbol, based on the visual from the U.S. sense of the word (lady bits), but semantically in the Brit sense (berk, arse).
WDS ~
Don’t worry about cultural appropriation. It’s called Celtonic verse and the ‘rap artists’ (ugh) culturally appropriated it from the Irish.
Bill Whittle did a great piece on it here.

Enjoy.
Oh I know you all think I’m trolling. Probably due to my habit of posting obscuria. However, my vast encyclopedic knowledge of music-y music does allow for the occasional classic gem to bubble up to the surface.
Like this one from the Johnny Otis Orchestra featuring Marie Adams.

“Am I the Only One Who Doesn’t Know 1 Song By the Artist With the Most Top 40 Songs of All-Time?”
…well, since he doesn’t have ANYTHING you can actually call a “song”, the question is moot…
Automatically downloaded (pushed) to phones of people who have subscription service with their provider. Whether they want it or not. Whether they ever listen to it or not.
Why is enjoying music like eating a candy bar? First you have to remove the wrapper.
I’ve heard his name but if you threatened to make me kiss Hillary Clinton I still couldn’t name one song he did.
islam is to religion
Fake News is to current events
transgender competitors are to athletic competition (aka fair sports)
college grads are to educated people
government employees are to public servants
feel free to supplement this list
Grampy Fur’s getting old. I know, it’s a rude awakening, but welcome to the club. Have a 27 year old daughter who thinks Drake is TO DIE FOR talented. Sigh. I miss the sugar hill gang.
Johnny Otis….. sigh…. you people.
Anyway, don’t feel bad about Drake. the reason you’ve never heard of the guy is because he’s CANADIAN. Hell, even American rappers give him crap.
Canada…psh.
Back to the music on the Alan Burr radio dance party!
Big Mamma Thorton, Hound dog

I have been subjected to “new country” at various events and places like when shopping at Bass Pro and can’t see how anything could be any worse.
Well here we are paying attention to the male mallard duck, and mean while Peter Tork has died.
Rap music sucks azz.
I’ll never forget The Church Of Rock and Roll courtesy of Aaron Burr when I was an impressionable little surfer…
https://youtu.be/4rz4I69mQMo
I gotta wonder why they define it as music, Drake and the other clowns couldn’t play a musical instrument if it meant their life. All their crap is juvenile rhymes repeated to an irritating drone. Nothing but garbage vomited up by simple minded thugs and shoved on the public by unscrupulous money grubbing opportunists.
Well its directly connected to the hands on the clock and the position of the stars. It may well be contagious.
If anything defines dumbing culture down, it is rap and hip hop music. The current “artists” are to 1960-70 Motown as modern art is to the masters of old. Most is pure garbage by people of questionable talent.
With downloads and digital files the music industry has fragmented to such an extent that it’s very hard to build a sizable audience for any musician, unlike the old days when the only fragmenting was the genre on the radio and the record store.
Find music and artist you like and stick with them.
Remember when we complained about Disco?
But seriously, Nielsen Soundscan is no longer being reported to by most retailers. I know. I was in the industry for a few decades and did the reporting. At this point they’re making it up.
It’s a hit hoax.
It’s a hit hoax
I remember when “rap” was something you tried to beat when you went up before the judge for reckless driving.
Now it’s garbage noise.
@Jimmy – I’m with you. Been a classical lover since early childhood.
Zonga, yes…. a classic.
However if I remember correctly… that vid got me in some hot water. Best to stick to dead people on this thread.
Like this skirt, who’s deader than Pontius Pilate.
Dolly Cooper on the Alan Burr radio dance party!

Only ever heard of him as wheelchair jimmy from disney’s degrassi high knocking up all the little pale whores.
WTF is a hip-hop anyway?
Love baroque, also the romantic period and Russian sacred music.
Now, those composers rock!!
HipHop was a mascot in da NBA.

The “C” in rap is silent…
I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I’m with isn’t it, and what’s it seems weird and scary to me, and it’ll happen to you, too!
Here in Vegas the DJ’s are all promoted like rock stars.
They play bullshit, incessant EDM- Electronic Dance Music for hours on end.
They sample other peoples work, basically stealing intellectual property.
They sell 750mL bottles of booze for $100.
I don’t go to clubs but the ignorant masses line up in segregated rows.
VIP, V-VIP, Schlub, Moron, Tool…
You know who else is dead? Big Joe Turner. Turning up daisies since 1985.
BIG JOE TURNER ON THE ALAN BURR RADIO DANCE PARTY!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YhELpSeeipg
Proudly brought to you by everything that gives you cancer nowadays.
Loco, I’m not a VIP or a V-VIP. I don’t t think I’m a moron or a tool, so I guess they would put me in the Schlub section. It could be worse, all those fancy clubs have urinal attendants, I’d rather die than be a urinal attendant.
You become #1 by the amount of cash your PR/record co is willing to pay DJs and radio stations.
I use Spotify, XM and all that so I don’t have to listen to the same song played on the radio 100 times within 3 hours.
The only reasons I know some of the current people are because they’ve gone to jail, been deported, got beaten up or said something stupid about politics.
I’ve heard the name but I know NONE of his songs!
Who?
I never heard any of his songs, but considered it something to be proud of.
Give it 2 maybe 3 years and no-one will remember any of those 94 ‘hits’.
I’d never heard of him. Until now. Thanks for nothing.
An explanation!!! It all has to do with Billboard’s change of methods in making the charts:
