In what universe is an anesthesiologists…or ANY member of a surgical team…left alone with an anesthetized patient?
There’s more than one doc, more than one nurse, and you don’t take a patient down unless you are ready to work IMMEDIATELY, which…for a C section in particular…you BETTER be.
The patient isn’t just left there either, usually moved to a crowded, noisy recovery room, where hopefully someone monitors their progress after they are extubated…and before that, there would seem to be mechanical challenges to putting anything else in that space.
…and this makes zero sense to me anyway. Patients are NOOOOOOT sexy. Unconscious people are NOOOOT sexy. Bloody, freshly wounded people are NOOOT sexy. You’re a special kind of sicko if you can get excited after seeing a baby forcibly yanked out of a slashed belly and should probably be put down, not merely jailed.
People are people though, and there’s no shortage of bad ones. While this pervert needs to be exterminated for violating his sacred trust and his patient’s bodies, the institution that made this possible needs to be taken to task too. there is NO ONE more vulnerable than an unconcious person, you can’t even be sure they will breathe if left alone, and procedures need to be in place to always safeguard and monitor such patients. Even on my low level I was NEVER alone with an unconcious patient for longer than maybe someone running to get something from the truck, and usually there were 3,4, a half-dozen people moving in and out unpredictably for assorted reasons even in the ER, and a cloud of people accompanied patients being rushed to emergency surgery, sometimes doing procedures as they rolled.
That this person was willing to do this and still lives is reprehensible.
But that he was given so much solo access to an unconcious person is an indictment of the institution as well.

Obstetritians are some of the squirrliest docs in the world, always extremely concerned (not without reason) of horrific birth injury lawsuits that can leave them financially responsible for a patient for the rest of his life and that have an 18 year window before the doc can be sure he WON’T face one from that particular patient, because a LOT of stuff can be blamed on him, and at a civil trial with a damaged baby in evidence and a weepy mother on the stand isn’t going to be particularly kind to him. This is a driver behind a lot of C-sections to begin with as many OBs will grab a knife at the SLIGHTEST sign of foetal distress (probably too many are for this “defensive medicine” reason, but that’s a different discussion for another day), and so they tend to be pretty obsessive about the process, up to and inclduing the team they have helping them, and also paranoiaclly micromanaging that team as the ultimate responsibility falls on HIM.
Given that, even though involved obviously with the infant removal and resucitation, most would certainly get paranoid if they saw their anestesiologist acting or moving strangely at a critical part of the procedure, at least to the point of barking “IS THERE A PROBLEM?!?” at them as a dead mother doesn’t play well in court either, and now we’re back to supporting a child for the next 18 years for a completely DIFFERENT reason, so he’s going to be a bit wary on HER behalf as well.
…and he may also need to be concerned about hearing angry male footsteps coming up behind him in the office parking lot…or worse, NOT hear them until…well…you know…so he’s typically VERY careful with births and such for his OWN safety as much as his patients’.
…again, to me, this seems a breakdown of many things that even made it POSSIBLE for such a pervert to be able to exercise his perversion, and for no one to notice it any time soon. After seeing to the perv’s removal, imprisonment, prison rapes, and execution by cutting his cock and balls off and jamming them in his mouth until he asphyxiates on his own pubic hair, they should fire everyone invovled in that patient’s care, strip their licenses, and train everyone else to know this will NOT be tolerated and that they are all to watch each other at all times, particularly when a patient can’t fend for themselves.
Pretty harsh, but this is pretty egregious. Folks need to know there are consequences for not placing patient safety at the top, and those conseqences need to be severe.
Is basic human dignity, caring and compassion a thing of the past?
