Anyone Else Getting Sick Of “Pumpkin Spice”?

It seems the quintessential scent of autumn, “pumpkin spice” is turning up every where now-a-days. Now the blend is turning up in deodorants, detailing spray (so your car’s interior can stink of pumpkin pie), personal lubricant (so your body parts can reek of pumpkin pie) and bathroom spray (so you can leave the odor of pumpkin pie behind when you’re finished in the can). 1. The junk rack* at my local Kroger store is full of all things pumpkin spice after Thanksgiving, sometimes even before then. Nobody buys it, at least not in the quantities they order. After a while they’ll try to give it away to the local charities. I pity them.

    * – A word of explanation: Many years ago I was buying a vinyl LP record album (remember them?) that I found in a markdown bin at my local Woolco store (remember them?). Anyway, the cashier noticed that the price was about half the normal amount and asked, “Why is this record so cheap?” Then he snapped to the situation and said, “Ohhh…you got this off the JUNK rack.”

And so a new term was born. I’ve used it ever since, and passed it on to many others.

  2. Love pumpkin pie, roasted pumpkin seeds, pumpkin bread, and will absolutely down quarts of pumpkin spice egg nog when it comes out, but all the coffees, lattes, beverages (pumpkin beer the exception), candles and such…really do get tired of the adverts.

  3. I love Chai Lattes at Biggby Coffee. That’s the only “pumpkin spice” anything I buy. And that is only once every few months. Otherwise, I’m with most of you. Give me the real pumpkin pie with lots of real whipped cream. That’s it.

  4. ORWW I do not like the smell or taste of anything pumpkin. I always make my family pumpkin pie during the holidays and I gag from start to finish.
Me Too! Last one I made was for my Brother when he returned from Viet Nam. That gagging business is embarrassing. Same with a wet Peanut butter knife.

  6. I learned the PP spice does not necessarily mean the product actually has pumpkin in it, just the spices. Read the ingredients to verify. As for actual pumpkin pie, for those who really like it, as I do, a little important info. My grandma, my mom, and I had always used canned Libby’s pumpkin for making good pie results. But a couple of years ago that product changed quality so much, I dumped the brand. Pie results were a loser. As with other commonly known brands, product quality has tanked in many formerly reliable, tasty food items. Bought out and degraded products to sell for more profits apparently bottom line. Americans are getting shafted constantly, if not downright poisoned by corporate shysters in the food industry.

  7. Never had pumpkin spice whatever. The smell alone tells me to avoid that crap. Don’t like the IPA beers the brewers hop up to the max so you can’t tell they brewed a shitty beer either.

  8. My wife and I love pumpkin pie and the smell of pumpkin spice doesn’t really bother me, but too much of anything can wear you out, so we just don’t over-indulge.
I’m thinking that those things Ann and Sylvia found should be named Pumpkin Patch tho… or woids to that effect.

  9. I will never ever get sick of the smell of pumpkin.

But that’s what happens when you grow up in the Bronx…

Had a piece of ‘store bought’ at a friends house after we got back from the Windy Acres Farm, Eastern Long Island, in which we bought a homemade blueberry lemon pie, this place has THE best cider donuts another thing I will never get sick of!

Just do not pay attention and be victim to the bullshit advertising.

I just LOVE Harvest season, pumpkins, gourds, corn stalks and all that crap. It’s a prelude to Thanksgiving and Christmas!

  10. Considering that I LOVE nutmeg, cinnamon, ginger, and cloves…

    No, no I am not.
Pumpkin Spice mochas, cookies, creamer, muffins, candles-
    I want it all. 🎃
