A 54-year-old Minnesota man was convicted Thursday in the slaying of a high school student and stabbing of four other people who were tubing on a western Wisconsin river. A Wisconsin circuit court jury found Nicolae Miu guilty of first-degree reckless homicide, four counts of first-degree recklessly endangering safety, and one count of battery, Minnesota Public Radio reports. No sentencing date has been set. Isaac Schuman, 17, of Stillwater, Minnesota, was stabbed to death in late July 2022 while he and the other victims were tubing along the Apple River in St. Croix County, which sits along Wisconsin’s state line with Minnesota. Three men and a woman were wounded.

Well, he was a recent immigrant. If he wasn’t here the kid would still be alive. Having said that the decision was bull shit.
With that sort of “unbiased” reporting guiding public opinion (justice is rarely blind), it is no wonder he was convicted. Of course, reckless homicide isn’t first degree murder so perhaps the conviction is appropriate to the action? I’m sure it will be appealed, regardless.
Bottom line, he was clearly assaulted. He admitted to being drunk. That seems to be a big deal. I dunno. Seems damn sketchy to me.
Next time go tubing or rafting with someone with a normal name like Bobby, Lonnie or Barnacle Bill. Yew might get ass-raped, but at least you’ll live to tell about it.
When drunk you can still defend yourself.
Being drunk doesn’t mean you suddenly don’t have rights.
They just jailed two parents because their kid shot up a school. They should try these parents because their kids were assaulting a drunk old guy.
If I ever caught my kids participating in that kind of behavior, gang violence, I would have kicked a lung out of them. And the knew it.
Erik
Are you currently drunk? Just asking. You might be prejudice. Snicker. I would be, but a late night at work and then the gym.
No, I might be legally drunk, but not drunk by anyone else’s standards.
I still have the right to defend myself.
Had they knocked me over into the water and bashed my head I would have shot them all in the guts.
But I’d do that if I hadn’t been drinking.
LOL. I’m trying to catch up.
More proof that actual JUSTICE doesn’t exist in the United States.
This man was assaulted by multiple people ALL of them trying to do
to REAL physical harm to him. If this wasn’t justifiable homicide and
self defense then the term is utterly meaningless.
I watched his testimony. And I watched a good portion of the trial plus the video. You do have a right of self defense, but it must be proportional. He pulled out the knife when no knife was required. He never brandished the knife as a warning, he simply began using it in against demonstrably. Stupid teenage boys. There were no heroes here, but no one deserved to die either.
terrible verdict, should get reversed/out on appeal if his lawyers have half a brain
We used to have the Great Raft Race on the Chattahoochee River in Atlanta back in the 70’s. Miles of drunken, stoned, floating rednecks, packed in the river from bank to bank, for miles. No stabbing, no shooting except the rapids, and lots of tittie-flashing.
They did have to cancel the race after a few years, though. Because of all the trash. No, not the white trash. The tons of beer bottles and cans. Times were different then. Dirtier, to be sure, but more civil.
