As Expected – Democrat Senators Block Pain Capable Abortion Bill

USA Today-

WASHINGTON — Senate Democrats blocked a vote Tuesday on a bill to ban abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy.

The action highlighted the partisan divide on the emotional issue the same week that Pope Francis is expected to denounce abortion in an historic address to Congress.

Fifty-four senators voted to allow the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act to come to the Senate floor, six votes shy of the 60 votes needed to advance the measure, which passed the House earlier this year.

The bill, if passed, would have changed current law, which allows women to legally obtain abortions through the 27th week of pregnancy, which is the end of the second trimester.

Only about 1% of abortions are performed after 20 weeks of pregnancy, and they are often done because something is seriously wrong with the fetus or the mother’s health is at risk, opponents of the bill said.

“This is yet another Republican attempt to limit women’s health care choices,” said Sen. Mazie Hirono, D-Hawaii.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said science shows that unborn babies are able to feel pain at 20 weeks and urged senators to change abortion law to reflect that.

  1. Since when is the murder of infants “health care”?

The ex-national director of PP was recently interviewed and asked what turned her around. She said she was asked to observe a 12-week abortion with ultrasound. That “blob of tissue” actually flinched and tried to move away from the instrument every time it felt it. That’s when she became pro-life.

  2. I agree. Reid used the nuclear option whenever and for whatever he deemed necessary and gave the finger to the GOP if they complained. The hell with it, what’s good for the goose is good for the gander and McConnell better figure this out the dickless bastard.
