Virginia’s “Second Amendment sanctuary” movement continued to see overflow crowds throughout the state on Thursday despite Governor Ralph Northam (D.) backtracking on confiscation and threatening “consequences” for sanctuary municipalities.
Eight Virginia localities became sanctuaries Thursday night, bringing the total to 93, including 75 of Virginia’s 95 counties and 18 of its legally independent cities. The movement—which pushes local governments to declare that they won’t enforce new gun laws they deem unconstitutional—has seen grassroots support from people of all backgrounds and ages in both rural and urban Virginia. It shows no sign of slowing, despite Northam promising a grandfather clause omitting preexisting owners from his proposed gun ban and threatening “consequences” for areas that become sanctuaries.
The continued momentum of the movement, especially in blue parts of the state, may weigh heavily on the new Democratic state legislature when it convenes Jan. 6. It has already forced Democratic leadership to abandon SB-16, a bill that would have completely banned possession of AR-15s and many other guns. what’s it gonna take? Virginia Government Troops going door to door? … that’s what they’re threatening today … what are they going to do tomorrow?

Nearly every body I met or knew in Fairfax and Arlington counties had guns that they either talked about having or showed me during the five years of Elementary school in Arlington, three years of High school (Bishop J. O’Connel, W&L, and Yorktown) and during the four years working and living in Fairfax county in the 90’s. All my neighbors had guns. Never was there a casualty. And they are Democrats now? Must be the Truman/JFK kind.

It’s a reaction after the fact. It shouldn’t have been necessary. People who should have voted Republican didn’t vote at all. There are 11 million people in Virginia. Almost 6 million are registered voters. 59% of those registered voters voted in 2018, results aren’t in for 2019.
Do the people that didn’t vote think someone will do it for them? Pathetic.
Despite being disgusted with many of my Representatives over the years, I vote in every primary, special election, and general election. It is a DUTY, not a right.
