Atlanta Puts Curfew On Electric Scooters

There are approximately 12,000 electric scooters in the Metro Atlanta area and those utilizing this form of transportation have been reckless with their own lives.  To date, there have been four deaths, “All four people who died were hit by vehicles. All at night or early in the morning. The latest was a man in East Point who ran a red light and was hit by a truck.”

To address these fatalities “Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms has banned nighttime riding.” More

  1. I was at a 4-way stop yesterday morning, stopped and then proceeded as a guy on a ‘last-mile’ rental bike sailed into the intersection. I kept going, headed straight for the guy who suddenly realized in alarm that ignoring stop signs has consequences. Of course I wasn’t going to hit him (imagine the hassle of cleaning all that off the bumper) but maybe he will think twice next time.
    Probably not, but maybe.

  2. Many bicyclists think that they have the right to do whatever they want because they “are saving the planet.”

15-20 years ago some cyclists cut right in front of unmarked police car. They figured it was a Seattle police car so they figured they figured their arrogance would cover them. It was a King County police car. King County police don’t play that game. The cyclists regretted their actions.

  3. I’m surprised no one has taken notice of mayor Lance Bottom.

From what her Wikipedia entry said of the mayoral election, it seems an even bigger cluster then the governor’s race.

  4. The scooters are already prohibited on sidewalks so riders are all in the streets. Death Wish.
I live outside Atlanta and don’t go there unless I absolutely have to (which is never). I wouldn’t use anything smaller than an SUV.

  5. I was 14 and pedaling along without hands, sitting straight up, and enjoying a Summer day on my bicycle. I was on a short entrance road to the local lake park drive when I saw a motorcycle cop was on the drive already and coming my direction.

I thought I was going to be in trouble for riding with my hands off the handlebar, but it was the stop sign I ran right in front of him, shortly after grabbing my handlebar, that he stopped me for.

OK. Lesson learned. Stop signs are for everyone.
