Netball Queensland has defended its decision to include boys in a state tournament after their victory against a team of girls prompted uproar from bystanders at the match.

The organisation copped backlash after allowing an all-male netball team to compete against girls, with online comments describing it a “terrible decision”.

The Queensland Suns’ all-boys team smashed the Bond University Bull Sharks 46-12 in the final at Brisbane’s Nissan Arena, with the boys’ coach reportedly copping abuse from the fans on the sidelines. More

  1. Where are all the feminists…oh never mind, they’re still to busy marching around in their little knit pink hats. Fuck them and those boys too cowardly to play against their gender.

  2. I can’t tell, was it a girls tournament and they let one boys team play or was it open to both sexes? And obviously the boys would win.

More importantly though, I though Australia was completely locked down! I thought people weren’t allowed to congregate at all, much less go maskless.
    So I guess that’s a good thing.

  3. I looked up Netball on Wikipedia. It’s primarily a sport for women, but there are all men’s league in Australia.

It’s like basketball, only static and the hoop is posted way too high for anyone to dunk.

Apparently, the tournament organizers never considered excluding men from their competition. I imagine they will now.

  4. LSD – nice call on the Aussie lockdown.

I wonder what the reaction to the blokes playing the girls would be if the blokes decided to identify as girls.
Or if just one or two of them did.
BTW, who ever heard of the sport before today?

  5. It’s somewhat like basketball but after you catch a pass, your feet must stay planted.

So, What’s wrong with American basketball?

    (a) Requires too much endurance?
    (b) Requires real athleticism?
    (c) It’s too ‘violent with it’s running, pushing and checking?
    (d) It’s ‘American.’

(Note the lack of a question mark in one case.)

  6. I don’t see girls teams facing boys teams as a problem at all. The big problem is letting boys getting spots on girls teams where they would likely be selected because of overall better athletic skills. Another related issue is boys facing girls one on one in sports like tennis or golf, or boxing.

Girls might prevail in wrestling with boys. Boys would get, uh, distracted, giving the girls a big advantage.

When I was 14, all It took for me to get embarrassingly over-stimulated was to slow dance with a girl.

  7. Girls, aka proto-women, generally have better depth perception. That is the entire list of advantages girls have over boys.

Oh, add height for preteens early teens.

    After that, nothing.

  8. money quotes … (sorry, sites no longer likey html language)

“Queensland Suns acknowledges the perceptions of disadvantage or unfairness for the girls regional teams, however the purpose of the opportunity afforded to us was not to overshadow them, but to provide some much-needed exposure on a significant stage,” the letter read.

“We acknowledge this has caused controversy, but it in no way justifies the abuse, intimidation experienced by our players and officials.

“No athlete, in any sport, should be subjected to this behaviour for any reason.”

    translation …
“we like the exposure, since any publicity is ‘good’ publicity … no matter whom it hurts”

“we know this upsets you, but who the hell do you think you are? & we are offended that you voice your unworthy opinions on our above moral & exalted actions”

“our athletes are above reproach. we are teaching the ‘boys’ (do the Aussies really think 21+ year old’s are ‘boys’?) that it’s ok to beat girls … & beat ’em good & proper! & we teach our girls to submit! …. great life lessons; that’s what athletics are all about!”
