Berkeley Spends $600,000 To Protect Free Speech Week

UC Berkeley finally put the proper security measures in place for Ben Shapiro to make an appearance at the home of the free speech movement. There were three arrests during the event that cost Berkeley an estimated $600,000 to ensure a peaceful event.

Free Speech week is still on, starting September 24th and featuring Pamela Geller, Steve Bannon, Ann Coulter, Milo Yiannopoulos, and David Horowitz, despite pressure from Berkeley’s mayor, Jesse Arreguin to cancel the event.

  1. There was one huge positive that came from the event. There was very little violence, and police forced every protester to remove his mask, or arrested them otherwise. This sets a clear precedent for every event in every city from now on: unmask the protesters or you will be held liable.

  2. I listened to the first 10 minutes of Shapiro’s speech. What a maroon.

    Glad to see that Berkeley is doing the lawful thing, although they are likely doing it because of threat of multi-million dollar lawsuits if anyone is seriously injured or murdered.
