TMZ update- We’re told Paxton underwent heart surgery and had complications post-op and suffered a fatal stroke.
Fox -Actor Bill Paxton has died due to complications from surgery, People magazine reported.
He was 61.
“It is with heavy hearts we share the news that Bill Paxton has passed away due to complications from surgery,” a family representative said in a statement. “A loving husband and father, Bill began his career in Hollywood working on films in the art department and went on to have an illustrious career spanning four decades as a beloved and prolific actor and filmmaker. Bill’s passion for the arts was felt by all who knew him, and his warmth and tireless energy were undeniable. We ask to please respect the family’s wish for privacy as they mourn the loss of their adored husband and father.”
Paxton, born in Forth Worth, Texas, had a long and accomplished
career in television and film. Memorable films include “Titanic,” “Aliens,” “The Terminator,” “Tombstone,” “Apollo 13” and “Twister.”
He was also featured in many television shows, including the lead in
HBO’s “Big Love,” the “Hatfield & McCoys.” He was most recently cast in the CBS drama “Training Day.”
Paxton is survived by his second wife, Louise Newbury, a son, James, 22, and daughter, Lydia, 19.
Sad! One of the few actors I really liked.
I love the movie A Simple Plan
Too bad, I always like him. RIP Bill.
NO! This guy was always one of my favorites. I’d like to know what the surgery was, my dad was killed by a bypass surgery (to my knowledge there has never been a placebo based, double blind study that shows bypass surgery statistically increases lifespan). He had a healthy diet, didn’t smoke, didn’t drink and had no symptoms, just a “routine” test by a surgeon looking to make a buck. The same asshole killed my ol man’s best friend the same way a month later.
Always, always, get at least two, preferably three opinions before going under the knife for anything.
Aw, that’s sad.
The three top causes of death in the US are heart disease, cancer and third is medical mistakes. Doctors may not be as capable as we think.

Game over, man. Game over!
He will be missed! 🙁
@ I AM TOSK
There is an old joke in the medical community “What do you call the last in his class in medical school?”
Doctor.
“you two donkey-dicks couldn’t get laid in a morgue”
as Chet in Weird Science.
…and as Simon the ‘secret agent’ in True Lies.
I think his best movie was A Bright Shining Lie. It was about John Paul Vann. Good actor. I liked him.
“Get it together and just deal with it!”
R.I.P.
“awwwww! that’s just great!!” alien 2…shocking death…r.i.p.
Maybe God didn’t like him appearing in that anti-Trump PSA. We should start keeping track.
😞 Well, heck. I liked him in everything he did.
I’ll feel the same way as when I see James Cagney in an old movie – “Gee, I didn’t know him and he’s dead.”
I hated him…. worst actor ever! I never understood how he was in so many great movies…. He must have been suckin off somebody important. All I see when I hear his name is his stupid face and stupid voice saying “Dorothy” like a dip shit, in Twister.
BFH: You’re the only person (except for me & my bride) who loves A Simple Plan . . . Great film. RIP, Bill.
A Simple Plan was filmed around my part of the country, Ashland, WI. Great film.
Of his most recent roles, he’s the master sergeant in Edge of Tomorrow and awesomely scary in Near Dark.
A real bummer. I’ve always liked Paxton.
HEY MORG, DID YOU SEE ANYTHING THIS TIME??
“… she has an ass like a 10-year-old boy …”
Don’t really understand the reference, but enjoyed his work.
RIP
“Tip of the spear, crack of my ass…”. Loved him in Live Die Repeat

Remember an early scene in The Terminator where a naked Schwarzenegger comes upon these punks who start making fun of him? Paxton was leader of the teen-age punks.
Hollywood actor’s- I don’t like them while they are alive and I won’t miss them when they are gone- However, I do feel a loss for his family in that they lost a husband and father and not an actor.
Chet in Weird Science
“Why don’t you put her in charge!”
-Aliens
RIP
“Game over, man!!!”
-Aliens
The best sequel of any movie.
He made me laugh out loud.
RIP Bill
Aliens, as the squad buckles in for the drop:
“We’re on an express elevator to Hell, goin’ DOWN!”
RIP Mr. Paxton. Thanks for the performances.
LOVE Simple Plan. He was great in that and in True Lies. Sad.
The guy was just likeable. liked him in everything he did he seemed honest and well, just likeable.
Just watched Apollo 13 a few weeks ago.
i think he had “more fun than a human being should be allowed to have” whilst portraying that stereotypical DI in Edge of Tomorrow….hate to see him pass…..he was always fun to watch, and i will miss him……sigh………….
Dammit, we’ve been watching the Training Day
series. Loved most of his movies. This scene is
the most memorable…..
