This is a clever ad. Not for a funeral home, though. That would be crass.
Wathan Funeral Home, the business advertising on the highway billboards, is fictitious. When people visited their website they found out that this is a campaign by the Montreal agency John St and Cieslok Media as an effort to discourage texting and driving. (It’s also a showcase to get the agency noticed. Let’s not our inner cynic be fooled.)
Statistically, in Canada, texting while driving will surpass drinking and driving as the cause of most fatal accidents as early as next year.
Over half of drivers in Canada admit to texting while behind the wheel.
Story at CNS
Clever. My little town used to have a stoplight at the intersection of the two main streets, but that was taken out and replaced with stop signs. It’s amazing how long it takes to get through the intersection when two or three of the other motorists are busily pecking at their phones. There oughtta be a law….oh, wait.
Anyone else notice the irony of a billboard, designed to draw your attention while you are driving, warning you of being distracted while you drive?
We can read a billboard and drive. We read rules of the road signs, exit signs, messages about traffic jams, etc.
Texting takes your hands off the wheel.
Next will be a reminder how mix drinks taste better if their made while driving.
I am ordering a bumper sticker that says, “If you kill me while driving and texting, I will sue you for everything you have.”
