Bloody brawl breaks out in Reagan National control tower, site of deadly plane crash

BPR:
A brawl and a “blood spattered” console were the focus of a new air traffic controller investigation at the same airport where tragedy struck in January.

Within hours of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy joining President Donald Trump’s cabinet, the burdens left behind by predecessors former Secretary Pete Buttigieg and former President Joe Biden manifested in a midair collision that took the lives of 67 men, women and children.

The same day as an announcement on efforts to bring in the “best and brightest” to man the towers and keep airspace safe, the Daily Mail reported that two air traffic controllers at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport came to blows while on the job.

“By the time the brawling colleagues were separated, there was blood spattered over a control console,” the outlet detailed based on an insider’s report. read more

  1. A guy hoisted my boss up by his neck tie and pinned him against the wall a foot above the floor. He got canned. Got a job with the state DOT a day or two later. The man is my hero. Had the sawed off little runt by the tail end of his tie in his left hand and was shoving the knot tighter with his right.

  2. “As had been widely covered, on Jan. 29, American Airlines Flight 5342 had collided with a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter…”

That’s not what the evidence suggests. From what I’ve seen, it appears that a female and lesbian with a meager 500 hours experience, not all of them in a helicopter, won the Intersectionality Derby and smashed the Blackhawk into American Airlines Flight 5342. Technically the airliner did collide with the Blackhawk, but only a lawyer would characterize a T-bone automobile smash up as in that way.

  3. I’m surprised the tower guys actually landed blows and shed blood, what with being seriously visually impaired and all.

  4. I get how the Helo-Jet collision might have given a couple ATCs some PTSD, but it seems like the story veered way off the who/whom and why of this particular brawl. Is there something about it that nobody wants to mention? Like, whatever happened to the ATC on duty the night of the crash? Was he fired? Relocated? Was he involved in the tower fight? Somehow, i don’t we’ll ever get the rest of this story.

  5. When my father was a controller counseling was required even after a near miss, (a mile or less between aircraft), then maybe time off.
I wonder why these controllers weren’t made to do any of that?
Or was the fight really for another reason?

“When my father was a controller counseling was required even after a near miss, (a mile or less between aircraft), then maybe time off.”

…comp time and counselling for critical incidents is pretty standard in the corporate world. Even my stingy Scots boss offered it to everyone involved in trying to recusitate a Vaxxx fatality in a company bathroom. Some folks needed it pretty bad. I wasnt going to initially as I had things to do and it was hardly the first fatal Id seen and I knew damn well it wasnt anything WE did, but my boss kept acting like he thought I was a freak for NOT freaking out and, hey, free paid half-day, so whatevs…

…this is akin to schools shutting down even when a kid dies outside of it, just so anyone who needs to get their shit together can without causing a massive scene or embarassing themselves. I certainly wouldnt hold it against someone for losing their shit over ONE death, and if there’s a possibility that you CAUSED the deaths of 67 people I would HOPE you’d wany to take a LITTLE time to reflect and consider what you could have done better, and maybe have the TINIEST bit of empathy for those folks and their families…
