Researchers followed 78 patients with chronic musculoskeletal pain through state cannabis certification over two years. Of these, 57.9 per cent had stopped using medical cannabis at one year, and nearly half (44.7 per cent) quit within the first three months. The only significant predictor of discontinuation was age, with those who stopped averaging 71.5 years, compared with 64.5 years for those who continued. Baseline measures of physical and mental health showed no difference between groups, and pain location, whether in the back, neck or joints, did not significantly influence who discontinued. Factors such as drug satisfaction, accessibility, cost and perceptions of relief were not formally measured, leaving open the question of whether discontinuation reflected lack of benefit, side effects or improvement in symptoms. The ages in this study caught my attention. If there was a generation that should have a positive relation with pot I would think it would be the baby boomers who were the hippy generation in the 60s.
Smoking anything is an awful thing for your health. Cannabis edibles, however, don’t hurt your lungs and, perhaps just as important, allow the user to carefully control the dosage. I’m 75 years-old. I’ve had two knee surgeries and have quite a bit of arthritis. 2-3 times a month I use a cannabis gummy to get a good nights sleep. Sleep is more difficult to achieve as one ages. Add skeletal pain to that and one needs occasional help.
Dr. Tar, this aint your 60’s pot…
They are measuring the direct effects on pain.
Perhaps they need to measure the effects on the ability to cope with the pain.

You hit the nail on the head.
About 6 months after back surgery the pain reared its ugly head again.
Thought I’d try some medical marijuana.
I found the pain of bumping into walls and tripping downstairs outweighed my back pain.
Damn near psychedelic. Didn’t need the added doctor bills.
