Bowling Has Evolved…

This seems awful.

Newser-

Back in 2020, the 11thframe blog suggested that “string pinsetters” might be “the next big thing in bowling.” The prediction appears to be spot-on—and plenty of bowlers aren’t happy about it, writes Ben Kesling at the Wall Street Journal. So what is a string pinsetter? It’s a new automated technology more alleys across the US are using to set pins. Gone is the familiar mechanical arm long used to sweep away downed pins. With this new device, the bowling pins are attached to strings, and they get hoisted back into place, kind of like marionettes, explains Kesling. As you might expect, the strings appear to have an effect on the game. Casual bowlers probably would not notice, but more serious ones—and certainly professionals—would.

Can you get a 7-10 split conversion with string pinsetting?

  1. Well, TRF, I put ’em in the ball! But the ball wouldn’t come off my fingers very easily (not enough lubrication??) and by the time it did, it had a pretty good arc on it. It would land about half-way down the lane with a loud bang and then bounce its way into the gutter at high speed, causing everyone to look up (and apparently, spoiling their own shots). After a couple of throws like this, that’s when the guy came over. I noticed my kids had conveniently left the area and were over by the food bar.

  2. Incredible that they are using strings!
Fucks up the pin trajectory, ruins the sport.

Why the backwards technology? Did the mussies come up with this bullshit?
Why not use some vacuum or electromagnet technology to reset the pins?
A leftist MUST have been involved…
    SMDH!

  3. I first saw those string setters in Germany back in ’68; nothing new. They’re okay for kids, non-bowlers, or Cosmic lanes like the one shown in the first video. But having bowled in leagues for years I know that those are NOT for serious, competition bowling. Without the ability to send pins flying, there’s no way you can have real bowling. I’ve sent the 7 pin in a careening wild spin that took out the whole back row to save a bad throw and turn it into a strike.
