The homes were said to be “sustainable.” And they were, for a few months.
After Katrina, Brad Pitt got a lot of fawning press for his rebuilding efforts. He founded a company that constructed affordable “Green Housing” for people who lost their homes. What a story! A Hollywood do-gooder, GREEN housing, sustainability, all-around feel-good progressive goodness!
Now the people are losing their new homes because they are progressive garbage.
One lady said there are mushrooms growing on the inside of her house.
Some people claim they are getting physically ill, hospitalized because of mold issues.
Pitt had good intentions, I’m sure. But…

Constructing homes by utilizing lawn clippings was never that good of an idea anyway.

Those homes cost a ridiculous amount of money too. Considering the neighborhood they shouldn’t have been over $150k, if that, but they were more like half a mil each. A waste. Perhaps raised awareness, but in a very costly way.
What’s the problem? The homes were meant to be environmentally friendly, so they were designed and built to be lived in for a couple of years and then decompose into wood pulp and mulch. The owners should be happy; they are contributing to the eventual greening of the 9th ward.
Cardboard would have been faster, though.
Too bad. I kind of like Brad Pitt. He’s a good actor. Perhaps some day he will wise up.

Best thing for most of metro New Orleans is abandonment and relocation to higher safer ground. Dallas birmingham atlanta shreveport jackson you get the idea. Safer no 8′ water in the living room no drowning. Stop the flooding rebuild foolishly flooding cycle

Mainly for the home buyers. Some for Mr. Pitt. He actually does mean well and did use his own money…. however….
Brad Pitt is famous for being stupid. Super nice guy. Just…. kinda’ oblivious. Pretty sure he was scammed just as much as everyone else.
None of which absolves him from his very public commitments.
