British Pop Band to Retire After 68 Years

One of the longest-running bands in pop history, The Searchers, has confirmed that they will retire once they make their Glastonbury debut in 2025. This will bring their 68-year career to an end.

The legendary Merseybeat group were contemporaries of The Beatles. They got their start during the British Invasion and have enjoyed a successful career ever since; however, they are now looking to take their final bow. More

  1. The article didn’t say anything about personnel turnover. If they’re still the original members of the band, then 68 years together and performing is an astonishing and admirable accomplishment. Well done, gents!

  2. @Uncle Al, it looks like John McNally stayed the course the whole time according to their Wikipedia page (except when he had a stroke and stepped down for a couple of months in 2017). It also looks like they disbanded a few years ago then reformed a couple of years ago only to retire this year.

    Many of the songs that were big for them were also hits for other groups, so I’m not sure I’ve ever heard one of their songs all the way through, just snips in news stories the last few days.

  4. Had the Needles and Pins 45 . Don’t remember what the flip side was.Only flip side that impressed me was the Nanker/Flege composed “The Under-Assistant West Coast Promo Man” Nanker Flege was Keith Richards and Mick Jagger’s / Rolling Stones nicknames.
