Brits Smiling Over Research Findings

A medical study coming out of Britain today purports that Americans have more missing teeth, caused by inequality of dental care, than in the socialized dentistry paradise of the U.K.British Teeth

The researchers observe that Americans use dentistry to address appearance more than to actually have dental issues resolved.

  1. What a load of crap. Every statement contradicts the one prior and the one next. Another junk science study, with Gooberment money wasted, looking to make one group feel good and another group jealous.

  2. Been there several times and let me tell you, crooked, snaggley toothed people are a lot more common then I see here. Many a time I started up chatting with nice looking women only to have them smile a minute or two later and discover a set of chops that could eat around conners.

  3. Same paragraph in the article..

a higher average number of missing teeth

Americans in that age group had lost an average of almost one extra tooth

I’m so confused. Is this article about missing teeth or lost teeth? You can have a missing tooth, ie, a hole in your mouth where a tooth should be, or you can have a lost tooth where a replacement tooth is in its place, or it could be either way, “I fixed my lost tooth” or is that, “I fixed my missing tooth”?

And what about root canals? I’ve got 7 of them – the root is filed out and the tooth is basically ground to nothing and then capped. Is that considered a missing or lost tooth?

Considering the entire study is on either lost or missing teeth (and we don’t really know which), it’s sort of important to draw a distinction between those repaired and those not (going to the dentist or not).

  4. I noticed that too. I am missing 4 teeth taken out in childhood to avoid having overlapping teeth. I’ve seen a lot, a LOT, of Brits with double rows of teeth. Most of us probably have our wisdom teeth ‘missing’ as well. It’s certainly not a poor hygiene or lack of dentistry issue. How many Brits have impacted wisdom teeth and how long does it take to get dentistry?

The people I know in the UK who have brains in their heads all pay for private insurance because National Health care is a gigantic joke on the citizenry.

Cut me a break. These are the same POS’s letting their daughters be gang raped and tortured by the scum of the earth.

  5. Does anyone else remember the episode where Lisa Simpson is shown “The Book of British Smiles”. That is the best episode! She’s going to get braces… we laughed so hard we had tears.

HEY! What about the fucking Irish… where they have 4 teeth trying to come out the same hole! WTF… UK? Tell the truth!

  6. One of my front teeth was missing for about six-months last year. That tooth finally failing was result of motorcycles and hockey fights ~ 30 years ago when I was a kid.

I have a dental implant now and it is fine. My wife and mother got mad because I wouldn’t wear the stupid plastic clip in tooth they provided me with while the post healing in place.

I’m not wearing around a damn plastic tooth, it’s about as damn undignified as a woman walking around with fake boobs.

  7. Seriously. Yellow, decaying and bunched up choppers are preferred over a few missing teeth. Yeah, right. The British have chronic dental hygiene problems with gum disease probably being number one.
Americans make dental care a priority even during this Obama nightmare care era.
