CA: Downtown L.A. residents say Skid Row fires are being ignored

KFI: Homes had to burn down in Bel-Air for the Los Angeles city government to finally pay attention to the dangers of out of control homeless encampments.

That fire was caused by an illegal cooking fire at an encampment in the Sepulveda Pass. in the aftermath, Mayor Eric Garcetti and fire officials set out a plan to clear tents and camps from hillside areas.

The action taken after the Bel-Air fire has angered business leaders downtown, who say that fires on Skid Row are a daily problem that City Hall has ignored.

Estela Lopez, executive director of Downtown Industrial Business Improvement District, said at a recent neighborhood council meeting:

“The city did the right thing after the Skirball fire, but human life and property should have the same value [everywhere].”

Business owners in Skid Row say fires start when homeless people cook, try to stay warm, or use drugs. Some of the fires are intentionally set.   MORE

  1. Geez. If elected city officials run off all the bums, the democrats may not have enough votes. That’s why the mayor of Portland is building Fort Bum Sponge, to the starting tune of $29,000,000. He’s afraid that if Trump follows through with cleaning up democrat voter fraud, Portland may not have enough live bodies to vote democrat.

  2. “…human life and property should have the same value [everywhere].”
What planet is this person living on! The elites and their property are WAY more valuable that everybody else. Wake up and smell the cappuccino!

  3. About 10 or 15 years ago, in liberal enclave, Ashland, Oregon, a homeless parasite lit a cooking fire during a drought that spread and burned-down a dozen or so homes. The perpetrator was caught and given a light sentence (6 months, IIRC), and no restitution. After release he continued to commit minor crimes and eventually died. After he died, the friggin’ very progressive city council had a moment of silence to honor this piece of shit. I kid you not.

  4. They should have just told them that a bunch of global warming deniers were setting fires in defiance of Mother Gaia. That would have had the police down there lickity split.
