Cage Match #11- The Carpenters versus Chicago
Vote here The Carpenters
vote here for Chicago
I can’t tell you how many times I had to listen to We’ve Only Just Begun at seventies weddings. I cast a protest vote for Chicago.
Karen looks fat.
Both “bands” s*** in my opinion, but Terry Kath was amazing!
If there’s a cage match theme in the future for most angelic voice, Karen Carpenter will automatically get my vote. Not so much for harmonies.
Cage match 12 – Yoko Ono vs ___________?

I just wish I could get harmony on my twelve string.
Yoko Ono vs. Upset liberal Karen.
Again: a really inprecise comparison.
Chicago is more akin to the Ides of March and Blood Sweat and Tears, not the Carpenters.
I saw Chicago in concert right before they released Chicago III. Terry Kath was still very much alive and they rocked. When he died, Chicago became more of a soft ballad band. Jimi Hendrix once said of Kath, he was the “best guitarist in the universe.” Chicago had 3 lead singers, Kath, Pete Cetera, and Robert Lamm. They seldom sang in harmony, but man could they rock. They just killed in this cover of little Stevie Winwood’s tune.

Karen Carpenter’s voice was angelic.
At least that was when Chicago was a rock group, not Muzak with an electric guitar.
For those of you who didn’t live in California, here’s where people first heard the song.
