California Democrat Proposes ‘Right to Shelter’ for Every Homeless Person in State

Breitbart:

California State Sen. Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) has introduced a bill that would guarantee a “right to shelter” and provide housing for every homeless person in the state.

The bill, SB 48, declares: “This bill would state the intent of the Legislature to enact legislation that creates a right to shelter for unhoused residents throughout the state.”

According to the bill, the “right to shelter” would include:

(1) A safe place to sleep and keep one’s belongings.

(2) An ability to access the shelter without having to sign up on a daily basis.
(3) An ability to remain with one’s partner.
(4) An ability to access services necessary to stabilize one’s life and transition into supportive housing or permanent housing, including mental health, addiction treatment, and other services.

However, the bill does not explain how the state will pay for the cost of providing the “right to shelter.”

Last year, 114,000 homeless people were estimated to live in California — more than a quarter of the nation’s total, according to the New York Times. Some come from other states to take advantage of generous welfare benefits and better weather.

Wiener’s bill does not explain how it will deal with the problem of migration, especially once shelter is guaranteed (at least by law).  read more

  1. Great, lets start with the address for Sen. Scott Wiener, the man who came up with the idea. Those willing to sacrifice the property of others for their own ideas should step up to the plate first. Then after Wiener, then everybody else who votes “YES” on the measure. I’m guessing that they probably all have substantial property to house quite a number of homeless I would imagine.

  2. The leftists want total control over people’s lives, property and money, so this is just a small first step by California’s left. Once the bums infiltrate, they will need more free services ergo more taxpayer funding etc…South Africa has gone all the way but I wouldn’t put anything past today’s left.

  3. A place to sleep. A place to keep their stuff. Yeah. Those are called “homes”. That’s why they are known as “home-less”. I couldn’t help but notice you didn’t offer to take any of these “home-less” people into your home, Weiner. Why not?

    > Right to shelter where, exactly?

Some of those giant “campuses”, of course. Google. Apple. Facebook. Plenty o’ room in those buildings. Already got security.

Oh! And the grounds of those walled “enclaves” on the edge of every city. Not, yet, enough room “inside”. But plenty o’ room for tents and port’o’potties on the grounds. Inside the walled gardens. Away from the riff raff. Pelosi. Zuckerberg. Cook.

    Make it so.

  5. Watch this closely. Certain factions of California’s leadership absolutely hate private property rights. Go figure. Some cities in SoCal off tax credits if you bring homeless into your home, or even your back yard. By the time this Bill is implemented the homeless will have as much right to your property as you do.

  6. I like the plan – except let’s use the pre-built FEMA camps. If they need more, let’s just build barbed-wire-enclosed, concrete slab structures (cheap) and install water and feeding troughs. Hell, I’d be willing to help pay for it. Invite all the Washington homeless south to live in that socialist paradise (it’s gettin’ crowded up here). Make it irresistible: free drugs and needles from Mexico.

  7. The USA should secede from California just to prove to the rest of the country that leftism fails every time it’s implemented.

Cut CA off 100% from govt. subsidies of all kinds. Forever.

It’s either that or just physically remove the politicians who do so much as even suggest such an act of anti-Americanism.

We need a hard reset in this country. This means rope and lamp posts need to come together.

  9. Maximum allowable square foot homes per person. Seems like a reasonable response for such environmentally conscious individuals.

At some point, your house and property is big enough. No celebrity who is only home for 3 months out of the year needs a 10,000 sq. ft mansion. That could house 20 people easily. and probably at least another 50 in tents around the home.

It’s going to take a lot of creative thinking and sacrifice. But I think they’re up to it.

You mean we should stop this coaster right where it is? And carry it back to the platform? So we can load it up with the exact same riders? And push the big shiny button? Again? For great justice!

    Yeah…

  11. I have no problem with this.
Just leave the US of A out of it – when you bankrupt (or any other scheme to make us (rational humans) pay for it).

Then those bums and hobos can eat all you “liberal” maggots.
A pox on BOTH your houses (bums and “liberals”).

    izlamo delenda est …
