California panel unanimously rejects proposal for plant to turn ocean water into drinking water

ABC: California water officials unanimously struck down a $1.4 billion plan to build a seaside desalination plant amid a water crisis sparked by megadrought and climate change.

The California Coastal Commission, which is responsible for protecting the state’s shores, voted Thursday to deny a permit to seawater desalination developer Poseidon Water to build a desalination plant in Huntington Beach.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom was among the supporters for the plan, which promised to produce 50 million gallons of drinking water a day. Steve Sheldon, president of the Orange County Water District, said the plant would make the county “drought resilient.”

Several environmental justice and ocean groups, as well as the commission itself, opposed the project for reasons including environmental conservation, marine life and the eventual increase in water bills.

“The project would kill marine life in about 275 million gallons of seawater per day,” Tom Luster, the commission’s desalination expert, told the panel on Wednesday, according to The Associated Press. more

  1. silly people! … they don’t want to solve problems … they want to create more problems!

The Great Reset™️ needs all the boost it can get … fast-track this phucker!

  2. Many of these environmental groups just plain hate people. Especially poor people. Ladies and gentlemen: your California Democrat party.

  3. First cut the food supply, then the water.
    Desperate people do desperate things.
They have to start the retaliation before Nov.

  4. & when they are no longer able to get vegetables from Whole Foods … they’ll burn that sucker down!

The Great Reset™️ is counting on it … Comrade

  5. You folks are missing the big picture; people drive too much, drink too much water, consume too many resources, dirty the air, and are toxic to a viable thriving planet.

Between killing babies in the womb, street crime, and premeditated food shortages, we can widdle down the population to a manageable level. Zero would be optimal. The elimination of a rapacious human species would be a net benefit.

  6. In the late 90’s the Royal Crown Colony of Gibraltar built a small reverse osmosis water desalination plant. The plant supplies 100% of the colony’s water needs and allowed them to close out the massive water storage cisterns within the Rock and allow the water catchment area on the east side of the arock to revert back to a natural state.

  7. “And climate change” – probably 10 million new residents from the extreme south of the border put a little pressure on dwindling supply, no?
    Wonder why that’s not mentioned…
You have to admit the problem is mismanagement before anything can be done.
Probably too late now; they’re rationing life itself now.
