Yessir, let’s play two!!!….Should Pete Rose still be banned from the HOF?….He bet on games, but I bet he bet on his team to win….Was his slide on Ray Fosse dirty, NO. Hard ball!….this is why I walk funny, and that was beer league softball….
Pete Rose should still be banned from the HOF, but I would keep his hits record intact. His hit on Ray Fosse, while legal in the sense of the rules was unnecessary and cheap. He played hard, you don’t become Charlie Hustle for nothing.
So, basically what MLB is asserting is: Because we deny it actually happened, it never happened. What a load of male bovine feces. Just like Joe Paterno never happened, I suppose?
Pete Rose was arguably the best to ever play baseball but we here at the MLB Hall of Fame have decided that rather than be honest about the facts, both good and bad, we will write our history the way we wish as to not adversely affect our brand recognition and income flow.
From the video: all the lies originated with a single fake news sportswriter Al Stump.
Around his home town, Ty Cobb is more known for his generosity which included providing the funding for the only hospital for miles in Royston, GA in the early 1950’s. He made part of his money by investing in a small home state bottling company named Coca-Cola while he was still playing ball.
If you ever happen to be around Royston, GA, The Ty Cobb Museum is a pretty neat place to visit. Here’s a link to the page on the museum site noting some of his generosity.

Baseball? Is that where guys get paid millions to scratch their balls, spit on the ground and try to run in a circle?
@.45-70 ~ not a bad gig …. & it’s ‘try to run in a’ diamond 😉
Ty Cobb got a bum rap …. just as bad a history ‘revision’ as J. Edgar Hoover wore dresses, Abe Lincoln was a homo & Obama is hetero
… & ‘eff Pete Rose … the Fosse hit was a cheap shot & it took Rose a lot longer to get Most Hits than Cobb
… look it up!
My dad almost became a professional baseball player but just crapped out.
WW 2 happened
I don’t know anything about ty Cobb but I have heard his name.
Last March, author Charles Leerhsen wrote an essay about Ty Cobb titled: Who Was Ty Cobb? The History We Know That’s Wrong
Good read: https://imprimis.hillsdale.edu/who-was-ty-cobb-the-history-we-know-thats-wrong/
It was adapted from his speech to the college and based on the book he did about Cobb. He expected to write a book which agreed with the prevailing view, but after his research into original news accounts, he debunked the false myths about Cobb.
Abigail, was going to reference the same,, a damn good read.
If Juan Marichal can get into the HOF after bashing Johnny Roseboro over the head with a baseball bat, I don’t see what the problem with Pete Rose is. Betting is terrible but attempted murder is acceptable?
I do want to read this book, though. I must admit that I have heard those stories about Ty Cobb and believed them for no other reason than that is what I had heard.
Gee Wally, I sure wuz embarrassed when I found out that the term “rough as a cobb” had nothing to do with baseball!
@MolOn AAbe….Let’s play TWO more!…LOL….Baseball makes me happy!….
For some reason Roseanne Barr comes to mind…
Didn’t Fidel Castro try out for the major leagues in the early 50’s?
