Cardinal Says Pope May Resign Due to Ill Health

MSN-
Pope Francis could resign over ill health says Italian cardinal.

Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi, the former head of the Vatican’s department of cultural affairs, raised the possibility as the 88-year-old pontiff spent his sixth day in hospital battling pneumonia in both lungs.

He said the Pope had always been “decisive” and hinted that he might voluntarily step down as head of the Roman Catholic Church if his health restricted his ability to fulfil his duties.

The Cardinal said Pope Francis had a tendency to “fight”, but if he was no longer able to communicate in an “immediate, incisive and decisive way”, he may consider resigning. more here

  1. He has destroyed many a Catholic’s faith in the church. His views on gays, illegals and abused children make me want to set him in the middle of a Louisiana swamp surrounded by alligators and snakes so he can think about all the damage he has caused people.
Maybe he’ll come back a better man, maybe he won’t come back at all.

  2. I’m confident ol’ Jorge B. will end up in Dante’s Ninth Circle, the one reserved for the treacherous, and specifically in Round 4, Judecca, the one named after Judas Iscariot, the apostle who committed treachery against God.

  3. I apologize. My comments are unChristian and I regret them. I pray that Mr. Bergoglio confesses and repents and thus with God’s grace saves his soul.

I just think that’s not very likely. (Stop that, Uncle! Just shut up now!)

  4. As an outsider, why should we care what Catholics do or who they elevate as their leaders?

Sure, from a Christian perspective, we want ALL lost sheep to be found, proper Christian doctrine adhered to, and all those practicing bad faith to see the error of their ways. But ultimately, each of us is responsible for our own souls and must take agency in regard to our own spiritual well-being.

  5. I guess he’s worried that Satan can’t keep him alive anymore. Good riddance. But isn’t he the “last Pope” spoken of in the Book of Revelation? He certainly fits the bill. Oh, and he is going to be in for the SHOCK of his life when it ends. He completely went in the wrong direction religion-wise.

  6. @Rich Taylor — The Pope has influence on political and social leaders world-wide. If he persuades them into doing bad things, we are all affected if only second hand. Bergoglio has touted Marxism, open borders, sexual deviancy, and an activist progressive priesthood. Jorge’s bad, m’kay?

p.s. I’m an outsider, too: Orthodox Christian. ☦️

  7. “The Pope has influence on political and social leaders world-wide.”

There are a number of bad actors out there, who ply their influence for nefarious purposes. The Bible warns us of heretics, false prophets and deceivers prevalent in the end times. But ultimately, it is up to The Catholic Church (whoever decides those things) to choose their leaders. If they choose badly, well, that’s on them.

  8. The headline makes it sound as though he has a choice. If he does, he better exercise it soon.

And just a reminder: there are no “big” and “little” sins. There are just sins. He who is without them can cast the first stone.
