We’re at that age…many of our childhood heroes are passing.
Gibson/Seaver always made a helluva great day to watch a pitcher’s duel, and we lost them both this year.
2020, you suck.

Oh no. First Sweet Lou, and now Hoot. My ’67 World Series champs are all heading off to their field of dreams.
And yes, 2020 YOU SUCK!!
today’s dindu-ballers with 5+ era numbers get exponentially more than bg, who had an era of slightly over 1.00 for an entire year
They’re watching better baseball in heaven than we are on earth. RIP Bob. Thanks for the memories.
Guys like him caused the pitchers mound to be lowered. RIP Mr.Gibson.
I’ll never forget 67 World Series. Mr Gibson won game 1,4 and 7, Sox only scored 3 runs in those 3 games. Amazing!
js, 68’ World Series for me. The St. Louis Gibson’s had the Tigers down 3-1, and Detroit came back to win. I was a kid then, baseball was fun.
Arguably the best pitcher ever….and I love those arguments!……5th grade and a transistor radio with a wire going to my ear. Mrs Schidt didn’t mind, in fact she was a fan, so all 10 or 12 of us unplugged the ear piece and turned up the volume for everybody to hear…..
He was such a great athlete that he played for the Harlem Globetrotters. He started 9 World Series games and finished 8. Truly a legend.
@WG – in 5th and 6th grades (’67 / ’68) we were excused from class to watch the matinee world series games on tv in the gymnasium.
Hoot was a fierce competitor. If he thought the batter was crowding the plate, the next pitch was at his head. Message always received. No prima donna whining or rushing the mound by the batters back then. Besides, at 6’2″, Gibson was not one to tangle with.
Hat, the days that Seaver and Gibson dueled and dealt off the same mound on the same day were indeed special ones. And to think you could buy a general admission seat at Shea for 50 cents back in those days.
It’s not the same and will probably never be again.
I hope Tim McCarver does a humorous/serious send off for Bob Gibson….His Gibson stories are epic….
You know it, gov.
Still want to see a game with you, though, even at Citi Field.
wow! Gibson & Brock within a month of one another. Tom Terrific gone too.
& now MLB is intent on destroying itself
man, this year sucks
This is kinda like having the statues of your heroes knocked over.
You lose another piece of your past.
And it is sad.
Hat, with new ownership next year may be an interesting one. You let me know when you’re going to be back in the neighborhood and we’ll do a game together. Count on it!
