  1. I wish them all the best of luck and a happy outcome!

A very long time ago, I was an avid spelunker. Part of the prep before going underground was a careful weather check and a study of topo maps of the area to get an idea of water drainage. It seems to me like these guys skipped a step or two. Getting caught by rising water in a cave, as they have painfully found out, is very dangerous.

On the plus side, caving is a very exhilarating sport, and is both demanding and rewarding.

  2. @Uncle Al: That sounds like some kind of ladyboy humor to me.

BTW, did you know that Bangkok is not a city? It is a district in the capital that ‘caught on’ as the surrogate name for “กรุงเทพมหานคร อมรรัตนโกสินทร์ มหินทรายุธยามหาดิลก ภพนพรัตน์ ราชธานีบุรีรมย์ อุดมราชนิเวศน์ มหาสถาน อมรพิมาน อวตารสถิต สักกะทัตติยะ วิษณุกรรมประสิทธิ์” which reads “Krung Thep Mahanakhon Amon Rattanakosin Mahinthara Ayuthaya Mahadilok Phop Noppharat Ratchathani Burirom Udomratchaniwet Mahasathan Amon Piman Awatan Sathit Sakkathattiya Witsanukam Prasit”

This translates to “The city of angels, the great city, the residence of the Emerald Buddha, the impregnable city (of Ayutthaya) of God Indra, the grand capital of the world endowed with nine precious gems, the happy city, abounding in an enormous Royal Palace that resembles the heavenly abode where reigns the reincarnated god, a city given by Indra and built by Vishnukarn.”

Needless to say, it needed shortening for practical purposes. “Krung Thep Mahanakhon”
is the official short name; “Krung Thep” is used in day-to-day conversation.

(Amazing tool, that Google search function.)

    🙂
