Celebrity Chef is opening a free kitchen for federal workers in Washington, D.C.

CBS-

José Andrés is ready to serve federal workers worried about their next meal. The celebrity chef announced Monday he’s opening a free relief kitchen in Washington, D.C., this week for the employees furloughed during the longest government shutdown in U.S. history.

“Today we face another type of disaster emergency in the United States,” Andrés said in a Twitter video announcing the initiative.

“We believe that no person should have to go through the pain of not knowing what to feed the children,” he added.

Andrés said he hopes the kitchen will also be “a call to action” to President Trump and Congress to work together and end the shutdown, which has spanned 24 days and counting.

“We should always come together as we the people, as Americans, bipartisan,” he said.

The “Chefs for Feds” feeding site will open Wednesday at 701 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, about a 20-minute walk from the White House and U.S. Capitol. It will serve workers daily between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m.

  1. December 22, 2018 Acclaimed Anti-Trump Chef Jose Andres Offering Free Food To Government Workers During Shutdown

Anything for a Buck, right José Andrés?
Do you could make inflight meals, to go.

  2. Any of these government workers happen to save for a rainy day? Mr. Illustr8r and I are in the midst of a down period and have survived by planning ahead, saving money, budgeting and using common sense. We haven’t touched a credit card to pay our mortgage yet and no celebrity chef has volunteered to cook for us. I’m sorry but I don’t have much sympathy for the temporarily displaced worker who is going to get a big fat check when this is all over.

  3. And another thing. It’s good that government workers are experiencing what real world Americans did while Obama was in office. Government grew and they got jobs in DC. Now, real life America is booming and they are sidelined. Welcome to FUnemployment, ya friggin dummies!

  4. I love the evening news manages to find 3 or 4 sad sack federal workers who can’t buy their meds or are selling their plasma machine to make ends meet. They are all losers. As Illust8r says, don’t they plan for bad times. Maybe it demonstrates how much job security they have that they don’t anticipate any lay off or firings because they are on the government dole for eternity

  5. Hey Mr. Showboat Chef, there are church-sponsored soup lines and free meals all over DC on any given day. A Supreme Court justice, whom your buddies accused of rape, serves food in one such facility, without fanfare, week after week. So please forgive me if I am underwhelmed by your moral preening and burritos for bureaucrats bullshit.

  6. Saving for a rainy day. Mrs F has been in fed employment for 20 plus years varied jobs, no college, which limits how much she can suck off the tit. 4 weeks paid off each year plus sick leave and great health insurance. She works hard and does a great job amid the nonsense. Here is the thing that always ticks her off and leaves her shaking her head. People in the same situation as her without one hour of sick leave or vacation time available, yep, as soon as they accumulate one day of either they call in sick or take a vacation day. My sweetie is in use or lose status, maxed out with both, that’s just basic common sense to be in that status, but then again she takes pride in her savings.
The same ones without any leave haven’t saved a dime I can assure you. No crocodile tears from us

  7. And this fall she had 3 weeks of leave to burn. Had all of her days off set, then one of her best friends was diagnosed with a rare cancer. So she cancelled all of her leave and donated it to her friend.

  8. Boo frickin’ hoo.
Since they’re not on the job, maybe they can go to Oprah’s show so she can give them an obamachevy that links to their obamaphone.

  9. PLUS, the Federal Credit Unions usually do not collect debt from, and make money available to fed workers during shut downs. The vast majority of Americans are in debt and have no rainy day fund….. government workers are no different.

  11. And the DC gov’t shuts down soup kitchens where they’re really needed because the bums won’t pick up after themselves.
Where was this asshole when the real bums and hobos were starving?

    Another shit-stain, dog-and-pony, hey-look-at-me! asshole.
Do we never tire of dis-ingenuity?

  12. Next up: 800,000 laid off government employees and their families are starving to death, many of which are not expected to live through the end of the week. All because of President Trump.

  13. Nothing worse than posturing poseurs…
“José Ramón Andrés Puerta, known as José Andrés, is a Spanish-American chef often credited with bringing the small plates dining concept ”
Translation: “ripping off diners with tiny portions” concept.
    Is he a citizen?
If not, he should be shown to the ‘puerta’.
