DC: Four of the five richest counties in the U.S. are Washington, D.C. suburbs — Loudoun, Fairfax and Arlington in Virginia and Howard in Maryland — so it is unsurprising that many Americans question the federal government taking money to prop up far-off elites?
One solution to the federal government being too expensive and out-of-touch is moving parts of it away from Washington, D.C., according to House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Chairman Jason Chaffetz.
The Utah Republican explained that computers and other technologies mean there’s no reason that a federal agency headquarters must be physically located in D.C., instead of areas with much lower living costs.
Someone suggested this a few weeks ago and it makes great sense. Transfer departments to Des Moines and Pocatello and watch the resignations fly. Downsize and get rid of the liberal bias at the same time.
Move them to Flint.
Here’s a better idea … rotate the Capitol away from DC. Have the Congress meet in a rotation of State Capitols and turn the DC one into a museum. It would make Congress be in touch with the people, get the government officials to actually know the country they are working for and breakup the whorehouse that is DC. Spread the agencies out around the country, too. Break up the whole DC circus.
Moving them to Iowa and elsewhere is a great idea. Not to mention hiring some people from fly-over country.
That should help the government to get in touch with the people.
Are they trying to get away from Trump’s oversight?
Or we could greatly winnow-down the Bureaucracy, letting people run their own lives again, and the remainder, 25% of what exists today, could be housed in federal offices in each state, connected to each other by networking computers.
Start with the elimination of most of them
And just to give a reach around the aisle, we could make it a giant economic boond… er… “stimulus plan”. You know, fur purpeeple. The largest department, by budget, gets moved to the poorest county in the nation. The second largest department, by budget, gets moved to the second poorest county in the nation. Repeat until you run out of departments, or counties, whichever comes first.
There are a bunch of small towns and villages in Northern Michigan along the shore of Lake Superior that could use the economic shot in the arm that the politicians would bring, but even more so what the politician following whores would bring in not just financial relief, but recreation.
But first off..Chaffetz should show us some results of the mind numbing hearings he’s held over the past year, Lotza Big PR, Little in results..
There is something to the idea of having all the poison in one carbuncle.
Wyoming. Near the missile sites.
It would allow Virginia to return back to its red state normality. Governor mcauliffe would never happen again. Senators Timmy Kaine and Mark Warner gone.
I could wax on and on and on about the draining of the NOVA swamp. But I won’t other than to say that little guys in rural VA will no longer have their earnings confiscated to pour more concrete and asphalt to enable the bureaucracy to get to work to further fuck the little guys in rural Virginia.
I’ll take it one step further. The District of Columbia was originally designed as a perfect diamond shape, taking land for the federal seat of power from both Maryland and Virginia.
As punishment to the south following the war between the states the Feds created Arlington cemetery in Robert E Lee’s front yard and ceded the Virginia chunk of the diamond back to a suffering state.
Give D.C. its land back. Voters included. I know it’s not many but it swings Virginia elections
Drastically cut the Federal budget before we have to face bankruptcy. Problem solved. We need to learn from Greece’s mistakes, not ignore the problems and hope they’ll go away.
reduce each federal bureau until it fits into a small strip mall. Then disperse them.
If Chaffetz is flogging it, then it’s bound to be a bad idea
and not in the best interests of the US.
You should see all of the building going on in DC and environs. It’s sickening. I lived there in the 70s. When I go there now it’s a foreign country. Lots of money flowing and a Balkanization of foreign communities in once middle class suburbia.
Annandale va is totally Korean for example.
Democrats built this.
Why is that Gladys? Please expand on your remarks.
@Truckbuddy, why would you want to spoil beautiful WY,
when Yucca Mt has all that’s needed.
@PHenry on the “Balkanization” of DC. That may be one of the reasons why the progs want to take off for greener pastures (that they can proceed to sh*t in). ust a thought about one of your posts.
The reasoning for my comments is this: the globalists/traitors have gone pretty much through the alpahbet in alternate plans. A-Z. Since they are finally realizing that none of those plans have worked and DT will indeed be our next President, they are not giving up and splitting up the govt. into different locations they feel may give them some extra latitude.
@Anon, read recently WY was losing people. Thought the state could use a boost. 😉
I live 75 miles SE of DC, bringing those shitweasels into Virginia could potentially jack the beautiful quiet rural place I am living in on the other side of the Potomac.
So could fallout. Didn’t mean to disparage your state.
@Gladys
Gotcha But there is merit to putting HUD bigwigs in Detroit. Dept of Energy in TX. AG Iin Kansas.
And generally draining D.C. swamp and placing outside D.C. comfort zone. Don’t want to move? Fine. People in these areas know the situation on the ground and can use the job.
Properly done, there’s more upside than downside.
@PHenry – the thing that bothers me about the plan is who is proposing it.

> We need to learn from Greece’s mistakes
Another war with Germany? Well, if you insist.
So it’s personal against chaffetz? I kinda get that as he’s been wobbly at times. And he’s a politician.
But his efforts here have merit and should be discussed. He ain’t no McCain or Graham.
Divesting D.C. Is a noble undertaking. Smash the bureaucrats cocktail parties.
Offer them the opportunity to live amongst us. Take it or leave it. Ply your trade in the regions over which you overlord, then live with the neighbors over whom you’ve regulated.
You might need like the messenger, I can understand that, but the concept is worthwhile.
Yeah – he’s a politician – and why do you think now that politicians have your best interetes t heart?
I’m simply willing to listen. It’s probably grandstanding. It may be bravo Sierra. But the landscape is changing in our favor. Ideas that were once considered outrageous are now on the table.
I’m just sayin’ – if the politician was a POS before Trump – what makes you think he’s all of sudden trustworthy?
… wasn’t The Chav a NeverTrumper? …. jus’ sayin’
Build a wall around the area to
keep the District Of Corruption under
our thumbs. It’s not a state for a reason.
In his book “The Republic”; Plato
had stated that politicians should
live in military barracks.
What’s old is new again.
An awful lot of federal agencies DO need to be relocated…to a place called “Oblivion”.
