Chicago’s new mayor, Lori Lightfoot has made a number of vows to tackle the city’s toughest issues. According to the mayor’s website, “Stopping Violence” is high on the list. The section on violence goes on to layout what will be the mayor’s policy.

Lightfoot’s plan to stop violence is a mixture of gun control, social justice and turning the mess over to the feds. A strategy tried across the country in other crime plagued neighborhoods and bound to lead to the same dismally death count.
SOLUTION:
Address gun violence as a public health crisis by looking at the root causes: THE ROOT CAUSE IS/ARE GANGS
Invest in community resources including violence prevention programs, schools, jobs, and community-based mental health centers: THE SOLUTION IS TO ELIMINATE GANGS
Lead a proactive strategy with Federal, State, County, and City officials to get illegal guns off our streets: ILLEGAL GUNS ARE USED BY CRIMINALS AND GANGS. GET RID OF THEM AND YOUR “GUN VIOLENCE” WILL GO AWAY.

since the perpetrators usually aren’t caught to provide demographic statistics, I wonder if there are any demographic similarities among the victims that could be examined to get some idea about cause from?
