National Review – A church in the suburbs of Chicago says it is “fasting from whiteness” during Lent, the 40-day period leading up to Easter.
“For Lent this year, First United is doing a mix of ‘giving something up’ and ‘taking something on,’” the First United Church of Oak Park wrote on its website. “In our worship services throughout Lent, we will not be using any music or liturgy written or composed by white people.

Headed to Wednesday night service at my mixed race Church in a Black neighborhood right now. We use the red back hymnal popular in many Protestant denominations. I don’t think any of the songs are newer than 1935, and the race of the songwriters are not mentioned because they are completely irrelevant. Black and White together sings “Amazing Grace” and “Nothing But The Blood” together without reservation.
Because we are singing to the Lord, not to Man.
And the only color He sees is the red of the Blood of His Son that covers us all.

If I were a member of a church that declared whiteness to be a sin and highly recommended that their parishioners to fast and repent their whiteness for Lent I would be out of that church so fast their heads would spin and never under any circumstances ever go back to that church again. Why should I repent and fast because I’m white when God created me to be a white male heterosexual in the mid 20th Century 90 years after the Civil war ended. Some of my ancestors fought on both sides of the Civil War and I am not responsible for the sins of my forebearers ever. The blood of over 600,000 + soldiers on both sides of the Civil war atoned for slavery nearly 160 years ago.
