China Announces 34% Tariffs

AP

China announced Friday that it will impose a 34% tariff on imports of all U.S. products beginning April 10, part of a flurry of retaliatory measures following U.S. President Donald Trump’s “Liberation Day” slate of double-digit tariffs.

The new tariff matches the rate of the U.S. “reciprocal” tariff of 34% on Chinese exports Trump ordered this week. More

  1. Trump’s response:

“…“China played it wrong, they panicked – the one thing they cannot afford to do!” Trump posted on Truth Social…”

    Bring it on!

  2. Food prices should come down a bit, but then again, China may not consider transfer of goods by Chinese controlled companies as imports.

China has relied on food imports for at least 400 years. (The rice market is what drove European competition in Southeast Asia.) The CCP obsesses over food security.

  3. President Trump should use this as proof of why we need to get our rare-earth supplies from our own mines that have been shuttered due to Enviromentalists.

  4. In any discussion of tariffs, please start the discussion of U.S. tariffs only after a discussion of the initial tariff landscape. These tariffs aren’t in a vacuum, and despite “free trade agreements”, all of these whiners have tariffs against the U.S. to start with. Hence ours are reciprocal.

Easiest thing for these countries to do: drop their tariffs. Should be working for Israel and Viet Nam. Any others going to take the hint?
